when i started running in march i was 17 st 6lbs. currently im bang on 16st(wouldnt think it if you seen me) but anyway kinda hit a brick wall at the moment though.
last few weeks or so ive been doing parkrun and a couple of slow long runs per week and am trying my hardest to get the magic 15st 13lb to appear but just not happening, think muscle mass is playing games with me too?
diet wise ive still cut out (mostly) crap. dont eat crisps, white bread biscuits any more and still eat more protein then i used to. a typical food day would be eggs and beans for breakfast or scrambled eggs on brown toast, home made lentil curry for lunch, evening meal could be anything depending on what the other half or kids want(eg chilli, tikka masala etc. snacks include apples, green olives and sometimes a chunk of of protein cheese, skyr or quark yogurt and i also drink tea, coffee, mostly ground but no sugar.

I came to running via weight loss. But I lost about 40 lbs by eating less (and better) and lots of walking before I started running. Your diet sounds quite good and I can't really see what you're doing "wrong"!
One suggestion to try and kick off further weight loss would be intermittent fasting. You can either fast on selected days (many do 2 days a week) or just reduce the time period when you actually eat. I try to fast till about midday (and yes, that means skipping breakfast!) and then I let myself basically eat what I want until about 8 pm. Obviously not crisps, chocolate, biscuits, processed foods etc, but nuts, fruit, vegetable sticks as snacks and a proper lunch and light evening meal. With that and the running I seem to be maintaining a more or less healthy weight.
Hi Mixindave. I am doing c25k with WeightWatchers and so far, so good. I've done WW before but the weight crept back on so I joined 2 weeks ago which is when I started c25k.
WW have two types of plans - the counting plan, where each food has a points value and you eat your daily quota in points and the No Count plan, where you have a prescriptive list of foods that you can eat as much as you want from. This mostly consists of lean cuts of meat, fish and fruit and veg... you get the idea.
On my first week I did the counting food plan and I lost 2lbs. Whilst at the WW meeting last week there were a couple of people who followed the No Count plan and they each lost 5lbs each so I'm giving that a go this week and it's going really well so far. Not sure if I'll reach the dizzy heights of 5lbs off in a week but it's falling off quicker than the week before and I haven't stopped stuffing my face!! Knowing the weight is coming off is motivating me for the C25K as I know I'm doing everything I can to lose weight and get fit and I don't doubt it's helped the metabolism.
Good luck with it all and I hope you get to your goal
I didn't see much in the way of vitamin C in the diet you described. Without it, protein is just expensive carbs. As in, your body doesn't actually use protein. It uses the amino acids that protein is made of. To make use of those amino acids to make new tissue, it needs to synthesise new proteins. It can't do that without vitamin C.
I changed my diet at the same time I started this program, mainly for reasons to do with allergies and intolerances, not weight loss. However I have lost weight too. I think the biggest changes have been no processed food and absolutely no gluten (flour products - bread biscuits cakes) I have been eating loads more rice. Talking to others who have gone gluten free it seems to really help some people with weight loss and managing that bloated feeling. Of course it's not right for everyone - but maybe worth considering. Good luck!
I'm with Miss Wobble - see it as a lifestyle change in which you take care of yourself as if you were your own protégé. Funnily, we always take care of others better than we do for ourselves. No processed food, just basic raw products that you cook yourself. A little of everything, balanced. And identify your personal weight nemesis - for me it's alcohol. Every time I cut alcohol out I lose padding from around my middle. In short, be your own best friend rather than your personally appointed food police.
I've done slimming world successfully for a long time, due to life reasons and medication I put quite a bit on but been back on track recently. The second week on this I put on and I did again last week despite being very on track with food. A few people have said body might be "holding on" in order to provide energy for running and I do feel like I'm losing inches so I think the scales are a little unreflective of my efforts at the moment so I'm just going to keep going and hope they catch up soon!!
I saw on tv that a shot of espresso before exercising helps boost your metabolism and help your run! Tried it a couple of times now! Not sure of metabolic rates but felt better on the runs!!
oh yes. im down with the strong ground coffee before runs and also believe it helps. My partner hates it, i tried going back to instant and it tastes like .....*&^% thats her fault for blagging a free coffee machine
