Hi Everyone, I had some fantastic help on Monday before I did my first session on C25k. So I am now asking about the routes you all take (or took in your first few weeks). Ok so Monday I decided to head down one road that is downhill, but uphill on the way back. The second half of the run was pretty tough but of course it would be, I haven't done any running for years. So today, I am debating on doing the same route to see if I get any further before turning around, or, whether to go a different route which is uphill in the first half then downhill on the way back. Will uphill at the start kill all my energy when I am already aching from Monday? Either way, my house is in the middle so uphill is inevitable at some point in the run.
Thankfully I am working at home today (daughters first sports day this afternoon) so I am doing my run at lunch time. I think that the sooner I can get them done in the day the better.

Hi, they are long inclines, so on Monday, the uphill on the way back was for most of the return 15 minutes. There is a steep uphill if I go left from my house but I am avoiding that. If I go right, it is flat for the warm up walk then I have 3 directions to choose from, 2 have inclines in the first half (for most of that first half) and the other is the one I did on Monday.
Heat? Where are you? In Manchester it is dull and damp.
If you can handle the hills then well done, keep at it, they will make you stronger. It is hilly round me and I remember having to alter my route in W6 to avoid finishing every run going up a steep hill.
In the longer term, running hills makes you a better runner.
Thank you. I am lucky in that I can mix my route up in so many ways. I don't want to do the same route each time because I don't want to find myself getting upset if I don't reach the same point by halfway. I think I may opt for the uphill in the first half today.
I did the Great Yorkshire run twice a few years back and that ended with the final km being on a steep uphill, was a killer.
When I started it was in a hilly park, but we soon switched to a flatter one for most of the program...😆
If you can't avoid hills, then your plan sounds fine, switching it around and see what works best. No need to try and get further each run at this stage though..just nice and steady. You will increase distance next week.😊
