It's a day early to be doing this (should have been a rest day today), but tomorrow unless I get up at 6am I won't have time to run, and as I didn't want to get out of the habit, it had to be today. Minus points for not resting but i give myself plus points for some newly found discipline
Blimey, I had forgotten how hard it is upping your running time by 50% even though its only 90 seconds which is about the time I take to eat a cream cake and that never seems that long to me.
Apple and the playlist saga continues, this time I ran in silence (not because I wanted to) but a mystery beep interrupted me and I stopped the run on the app, so had to start again. This time I decided I'd had enough and I enjoyed one on one time with Superman himself Michael J. It was okay as he is very chill and the recording reminds you it is harder this time and that it's okay to be slow
In all honesty though, I prefer running/walking/collapsing to music as it gives me something to focus on, whereas on my own all I hear is the desperate puffing and panting of someone who has let herself fall into disprepair.
So back to the drawing board on my playlist as now I can't even get my three recent downloads to play.
Please don't run on your rest days. When you run you create micro tears in your muscles which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while you are running.
No rest day, then no repair, no strengthening and increased risk of injury which will stop you in your tracks. Discipline is following the instructions to leave at least one day between runs.
Yes I know what the rest days are meant for - I know I can't run tomorrow, so I made the call that it was far better for me to get out there and establish the mindset of committing to something I don't enjoy, rather than letting the routine slide. That has been my problem previously - which is why I am back as a lapsed 10k runner, from 2 years ago... You are spot on of course, but I know I am flaky and any excuse will be found to stop doing this. So forgive me for not following doctor's orders, but it is with the intention of keeping me going
Okay so you are right but 6am for me is horrid o clock and in fairness the mosquitoes are out at that time here ( yes I know a flaky excuse) I thought I'd achieved greatness getting out at 8.30!
Maybe I should try the podcasts instead, rather than the app then. I'll do a download which give my recent technology failures is not necessarily a guaranteed success
Oh! I so know where you're coming from. If I run in silence it seems to take twice as long. All I want is some music with a beat that goes in time with my feet. I don't think it's too much to ask. I've got to the stage now where if I think of a song I like I jot it down then download it on to my 'jogging' playlist. I give it a try and if it's too slow it's 'removed from my playlist'. Slowly but surely the list is getting longer. I want it to be so long that when I put it on shuffle I never hear one song twice.
Perhaps I'll try one of these highly recommended podcasts and see how I get on with that. Could be the way to go!
Aha you obviously possess timing and coordination. My playlists are utterly random - usually based on a theme but I’ve found so far there are only two songs that I can run in time to. Freeze frame by J Geils Band and Lose Yourself by Eminem . I tried the podcasts but they weren’t for me - blame Mr Smooth aka Michael Johnson, once listened forever smitten and this is one year on from graduation. Running without music is called running naked apparently - I can’t do it, I’ve tried lots of times but music gives me a different focus. Happy running and good luck with the playlists. If you want to check out mine you can find them on Spotify under Jancanrun or look under Retro Runners you’ll find hours of music there - but they may not suit your tempo... good luck
