When I started the c25k programme back at the end of January, I registered for the Women's Running Race on Southampton Common to give me something to work towards. It was such a long way off I felt pretty confident I'd be able to achieve the 5k with no problems. Through the dark days of winter and the hayfever of spring and early summer, the date, the 4th June, has kept me going. And guess what? I DID IT! Yesterday I ran (tortoise jogged) my way around the 5k course on the Common and when I reached the finish I burst into tears of exhilaration and joy. I've been on a real running high ever since. It's such a brilliant feeling and for an old couch spud like a me, a real sense of achievement. I could not have done it without my superfit daughter-in-law encouraging me every step of the way, but finally I feel I can call myself a runner. I'm proof that the c25k method works and now here I am, thinking ahead to my next event
