Is this unusual?

I am about to complete week 6 this week, but one thing I have noticed is that my legs really feel it and that's the reason why I slow down. My lungs don't hurt and I have never felt out of breath.

Hi Wanna, from my point of view (newbie), just finished week 4, its very normal, I feel like I could run 10 to 20 percent more than where I am currently but I don't want to overdo the load on my legs so I'm slowing down. The first run I did I felt like I had shin splints but I always used to get them from a brisk walk anyway. I think if anything its preferable to be staggering about unable to breath.

Your legs should feel it! It's proof positive that things are changing and your body has noticed 🙂

Keep going. NIce and steady and you'll be fine. Don't push things at all

Have fun 🙂

Yes! I know exactly what you are saying! I felt like I was dragging the legs along but the lungs were keeping up with the programme! I thought it would be the other way round

I looked up about my calf muscles really hurting and read to keep stretching the calf muscles even on days off and it seemed to really help when I finished w6r3 on Tuesday (still in shock I did it!) and the previous 2. I was worried about having to go for 25 minutes with really hurting legs and have to stop but it seems to have helped. It was more endurable than in constant pain I should add. Plus I'm sure also having had some more "shuffles" under my belt would assist!

Hope that helps - an easy solution if it is that. I will now have a stretch while I wait for the kettle to boil!! I understand the importance of stretching now, that people have said all along!

Good luck!

Where can I get hold of some calf muscles exercises?

I guess online but I'm just putting a leg further back than the other and stretching it for about 10 seconds at a time and then the other. And definitely do before starting your run along with other stretches. Hopefully this makes a difference.

Do look up stretching, I think there is a link on the Nhs healthunlocked website showing you how to do this correctly. Only stretch after your run while your muscles are still warm ( after the warm down walk)

I found toe lifts and heel drops helpful for my stiff calfs.

Good luck with that Week 6 run😊

You can do it...
