Some have.. some not... It is not specifically for weight loss, but may help :)

It will though, tone and tighten, and linked with a healthy sensible eating regime work well. I am sure you will get lots of responses.

It is a great programme and a great forum.. and a few of the runners on here are also on the NHS Weight Loss forum too :) It works well for them :)

I've lost quite a bit of weight and I'm only on week 4. I think it's because I have stopped drinking and stopped snacking in-between meals.

Even though the program wasn't specifically designed for weight loss, it is so difficult (for me) that I won't ruin all my hard work just for the sake of a snack or drink.

The old saying applies, "You can't out run a bad diet". If you couple your running with a healthy balanced diet you should see an improvement in your weight.

I've lost weight but I have also overhauled my eating habits and drink more water too. I've been on 1400 calories a day.

The inch loss is more noticeable though in terms of body shape.

Half an hour of walk running is probably about 300 cal so if you didn't alter anything else you would burn about 3 x 300 x 9 = 8100 calories or about 2 1/2 lb of fat for the whole programme!

The human body is beautifully (or horribly depending on your point of view) efficient. A lot of people consciously reward themselves for exercise or unconsciously compensate so a light exercise plan is a poor and unmotivating way to lose weight.

Concentrate on how you feel. Barring injury, I guarantee if you follow the programme, you will feel better. This might help you make better food/meal choices

I found that getting fitter motivated me to look at my diet more carefully and it was the obvious way to get faster. I've lost 10kg and about 10% body fat in a year. C25K was the start of it but not the reason for it.

Avoiding brown food helps

I've dropped two sizes but not a single pound! A good diet coupled with a fat burn walk on rest days is what I'm trying to introduce into my regime.

It's not a major issue I just wondered if people had on this plan. But thanks for the feedback. I'm a newbie and tomorrow will be R3 W2. Scared about W3 so will see how I get on.

In case it helps I am finding w3 easier than weeks 1 or 2 - am trotting at my most minimal effort/speed as though I've found a lower gear than I knew I had - barely above walking but keeping head from bobbing as advised. Not power walking either - leisurely low/down trot? Not sure how to explain it and not sure if it's right- feels a bit lazy?

I was the same it was tough but you can do it!!

I'm now on week 4 run 3 I'm a little nervous about week 5 but so far I've managed every other week so I know it can be done!

You got this!!!

in reply to Coralie1010

I was really scared as I approached week 3 but actually loved it once I did my first run of wk3 and the feeling of achievement. I'm about to start wk5 and now looking forward to that too.

Anything that you do is an achievement over doing nothing so feel proud of doing what you have so far.

I was unfit and overweight when I started the programme. C25ktaught e taht I could run successfully and that gave me the motivation to make exercise part of my regular lifestyle. That coupled with improving my diet resulted in considerable fat loss which I have sustained without realproblem.

When it comes to weight loss, can I ask what do people (who are seeing positive weight loss) for their lunch!?

I really struggle with this! I can do a healthy brekkie and a low carb dinner easy- but lunches – no, can’t seem to think of anything!

I generally have a pitta with tuna salad 2 rice cakes and fruit. I think this perhaps need to change slightly!

I can’t do a leafy salad else ill be hungry by 2oclock haha!

Id love some ideas 

What about a chicken salad wrap?

I buy either mini wraps or the weight watchers ones!!

Other than that I love cous cous with chicken or ham and salad!

I think the most important thing is to take control of it. being reliant on vending machines or snack shops will set you up for high calorie unsatisfying food

I have 3 main staples for lunch

1) Last nights left overs

2) Home made soup (usually leftovers plus water)

3) Salad - this is usually everything in the fridge - carrot, cucumber, celery, mange, tout, red pepper onion, seeds, nuts plus the leaves (usually a mixture of tasty and crunchy) and a dressing with 1 tbsp olive oil. Fills a huge bowl and is hard work to eat.

Each option is usually veg heavy and carb light with some lean protein.

This plus some fruit usually sees me through. I find if I'm exercising in the evening a banana before I leave work will set me up for getting out the door rather than being ravenous and raiding the fridge.

Today is the first time I've had to get a sandwich lunch at work in 18 months - left lunch at home!

It definitely does help with weight loss... but not in a simple 'do the programme and you won't be overweight' way, it's more subtle than that.

Hi. Interesting question. As others have said, I think it depends on your diet. I've lost a couple of pounds but didn't need to lose weight. What's noticeable is a much more toned body - I've rediscovered my waist & legs! Just be careful not to reward yourself with food as I occasionally do!!

I've lost 29lbs since I started running last summer. I don't think it's down to the running though as I've been using a free App called MyNetDiary which is why I think I've lost weight.

I've lost very little weight, but my waist/hips are smaller. I didn't really do it to lose weight though. I hope to maintain my weight.

I'm three weeks in and I've actually gained weight which is distressing me somewhat. Before starting running I'd lost 11lbs on the 5:2 diet which I'm still doing. My fasting days are on my rest days. However, my thighs and waist are much more toned so I'm guessing I've now got more muscle and less fat. I keep telling myself not to worry about the weight gain because I'm getting increasingly healthier and I'm hoping that in time the weight loss will kick in again. I'm half a stone off my target weight but I've set myself 2 months to lose it which should be doable.
