I've lost 14 kg. C25k started it, but didn't do it alone.

Ooh, well done! I'm super careful with my diet and walk everywhere. I have lost 2 stone with three still to go. My weight loss seems to have annoyingly plateaued out. I've just finished W3 C25K, and am hoping that I may see weight loss movements as I progress...?

As you progress you'll run longer distances and obviously burn more calories, but if you are like me, you will also feel hungrier. When I return from a 15 km run, I am hungry as a wolf. In my case, there is no way around keeping a keen eye on what goes in my mouth. But don't try to starve yourself off the plateau!

Perhaps join the Health Unlocked weight loss forum? Super friendly place.

Hi... and well done on reaching Week 3...:)

C25K is not specifically a weight loss programme, but some of our forum family do lose weight... some don't. I put weight on at one point, which was good for me :)

What it will do, or certainly seems to do for many of us is tighten, tauten and hone up our bodies...you feel better, physically and mentally, and once the motivation kicks in, the combination of a healthy eating regime and the steady structured exercise is an excellent way to move forward.

Many of our forum friends also, post on Weight Loss NHS, and find the two forums and their programmes compliment each other.

Follow this programme and keep posting, you will find loads of support on your running journey and vicariously your weight loss journey :)

Try not to focus too much on your weight. Body shape is more important. You may even see your weight increase slightly as you will build some muscle tissue first. Your body will take a short while to adjust and will try to protect its fat reserves too.

I try to run in the morning, as that in theory will be your best chance of keeping your metabolism up. Have a light breakfast (tea and toast) 1 1/2 -2 hours before and a banana as soon as I finish. If you go out later in the day you can potentially raise your metabolism and then go home and relax so it will drop again.

I hope that is of some use/interest, it's been a while since I've had to write any of it down.

hmm, you really won't build muscle doing C25k. Or running full stop.

If you've gone from doing nothing to exercise, then you will build some muscle tissue. It won't be much but there will be some increase as The muscles will need to strengthen.

Echoing what some other are saying.... C25K on its own will not necessarily cause you to loose weight, but some sensible eating habits coupled with it will help.... I've lost almost 3 stone over the last year, but while the running helps with the fitness, especially in the early weeks you're not really doing enough calorie burning to make a difference. It will however build cardiovascular fitness, and that helps with a more active lifestyle - couple that with healthier eating habits and it starts to work.

For me, the eating side has been about portion control and healthier habits - I wouldn't say I've followed a diet programme, I've just paid more attention to what I've been eating, and ultimately if you are taking in fewer calories than you use up you will start to lose weight. What the running has helped with is stress relief - I have a tendency to comfort-eat, and to an extent the kick from going running has helped me deal with the stress in a more healthy way....

Fab comments! It's true about stress relief, I am loving feeling fitter and healthier. When I was doing no exercise I hated the way I felt. I'd get out of breath doing the slightest thing and aching joints, always super tired. But now the combination of careful eating and exercise has made me able to cope with so much more, no aching joints, sleep better, don't tend to get melancholic, I can climb steep hills and not feel like I'm going to have a heart attack - that is an amazing feeling! So yes, you are right - the exercise serves a different purpose I guess!

Totally agree about the sleep. I suffer with stress and anxiety and I'm usually a terrible sleeper. I'm only on Wk2 Run 2 but already I'm sleeping so much better. I feel more energised than I have in years!

Yeah, I lost a further stone, having already lost over 3.5 stones by joining WW and borrowing a dog 🐕😃 I started C25k and lost another stone

I lost 1.5 lbs last week and another pound this week. Not that I was trying cos I wasn't. It's down to running and walking the dog, running errands, being in the garden. Generally being mobile while eating healthily. 🙂 That is all that's needed, those two things 😃

Wow! You've achieved wonders! That's amazing! You must be thrilled to see such great results! I walk my dog each morning for an hour and half and I LOVE it (as well as getting in at least 8,000 steps!). Great advice, I will try to change things around a bit diet wise, since I've definitely hit a plateau, despite being really careful with my food intake. I want to get to the point I can fit into a size 12 dress and also run a marathon with my hubby!! That's my goal!

Ha ha! When I read your first paragraph, I had a mental picture of your dog pinching your food,... I did go on to read the rest however!

If your weight loss levels off then change things about. Swap your menu for the week and eat something different. Be more mobile if at all possible. Keeeeeeeep moving 😃

I've lost over 11 stone since Dec 15. about 7 of those since I started C25K in July 16.

However, I truly believe "weight is lost in the kitchen not the gym".

Only 4 stone to go for me :-)

Wow!!!! That's incredible! You must really feel the difference! Yes, you are clearly right, diet is for weight and exercise is for mental and physical health. Ooh, keep it up! You've been amazing!

I lost just under a stone but didn't start the programme to lose weight. I've been doing the programme since the end of November but had to stop for a month due to injury, so I've put a couple of pounds back on. I am re-starting on Thursday 🤗🎉 after going to see a physiotherapist and been given the go ahead. I'm going to take it easy and start from W1R1! My physio has given me stretches to do so I'm all ready to go 🏃‍♀️

Enjoy the programme and good luck 😉
