I don't want to lose weight!

I have nearly finished the programme and stopped short at 4.9K this weekend.

The problem is I am 6ft tall and weigh just 12.5 stone. I am pretty slim already and all this running has made me lose weight. Problem with this is I lose it from my face, arm and legs before by tummy and it makes me look ill. Friends keep saying how skinny I look, which makes me self conscious.

Any advice?

Weigh Gain (Loss) = Calories In (from food) - Calories Out (metabolism + exercise).

You can try eating more (healthy) calories.

Sounds as though you are set to be one of the faster end of the spectrum, so you may be burning more calories during your sessions than most of us do (those of us doing it for weight loss usually need to adopt other strategies as well)

You'd think your appetite might naturally adjust if so, depending on your whole 'food environment'. (Laura's suggestion of having a banana when you finish might apply to you as I relutantly had to accept it does not to me) You don't say how much weight you've lost during the programme. Worth keeping an eye on and if a simple increase in healthy calories isn't doing the trick then a medical check up seems worthwhile.

I empathise! I have had similar worries and as a I have upped my distance I have definately found myself eating (and having to eat) a lot more ! I did lose weight from my arms but over time they have become more toned. As for my legs - the tightness of my jeans suggests my thighs have actually got bigger - hills are prettty good for that! Overall, my weight is pretty much the same as it was for years before I took up running - I would love to weigh more but it just ain't happening at the moment! People commenting on our 'skinniness' is so frustrating - I have had a lifetime of that too and would never make unkind remarks about a persons weight. Have you tried doing a few weights - great for toning up and the results show super quick if you're slim! I got to the point where I knew I wasn't going to stop running anyway because I love it too much, so who cares what anyone thinks! I may be very slim but am still within a normal bmi, so this is me and that's ok. 🙂 I also ran my first half marathon recently and the buzz of completing that and knowing how much confidence I have gained from running, knocks any concerns about my weight way down the list. Hope this doesn't stop you running - good luck! 🙂

Another "natural skinny" here. I've learned to ignore others' comments as they are mostly based on jealousy. "You can eat that and not put on weight?!!!" I love the way people can say directly to your face " have you lost weight?" Even though a) I haven't and b) I would never dream of saying to someone "have you put on weight." Cracks me up that.

Sandraj39 is right about weights. I've done them most of my adult life and they do help with muscle definition. Eating the right things is hard. People just say eat more but it's more complicated than that as you want to eat more of the right things and not just gorge on burgers and junk every day but it's still hard to get the calories in.

I eat lots of avocados, protein, full cream milk, chocolate milk etc, nuts, pasta, potatoes, flapjacks, etc. You can experiment and see what works for you.

The little things help. If I'm eating pasta for example I'll add butter and cheese on top.

Ignore others' comments and just keep running.

People ask me all the time if I've lost weight, I think it's as a largish person (5'10, 75 KGs) they have a mental image of me that's bigger than the reality if you know what I mean.

If you know you are healthy, and you are enjoying exercise then why worry 🙂 Eat good, healthy, nutritious food and keep running

Add in some strengthening exercise using your own body weight so you get toned up. Such as Cross fit type of thing
