No stamina IS the definition of a new Runner I barely made it through the first day and NEVER thought I'd get to graduation or beyond It took longer than '9 weeks' - for over 90.9% of us polled recently it sure did - but now a 5K is usually a 'nice run' for me
If you got through Day one and there is no medical reason for you not to take up running you are on track for all this too
So - you might be 'new' but you are running, You did Day 1 - got out the door and that far from the Couch. It always feels great
I have been running since June 1st last year and have lost a grand total of 9 or 10 lbs weight putting me at a shade under 14 Stone So - yes, we have to haul a bit more around than do the accursed Ectomorphs LOL, but we are still capable of running
Slow and steady will get you to Graduation. What you are doing in the programme is building stamina, slowly but surely. the speed and distances will come later, and if you eat even a bit more sensible than I do ( I hold my hand up to it - still eating a lot of rubbish nutritionally speaking ) the weight will come down steadily also.
best wishes for many happy miles in your future
I was 18stone 7lb when i started c25k 55 yr old no exercise in 30+ years and graduated friday night . If i can do it you can .. you cant fail this program , you can only give up . All you have to do is run slower than you ever thought possible . Like a snail in reverse . Keep putting one foot in front of the other and say " just one more "
Like Irish John, I didn't think I would make it through Week 1 either but here I am, 4 months post graduation running 5k on a regular basis. Just take it slowly, don't start off too fast as you will run out of energy and as you progress through the program, your fitness will increase & you will feel less knackered. Keep going, it is so worth it and the feeling when you graduate & get your shiny graduate badge is just fabulous.
Keep posting as you complete your runs, we love to hear how everyone is getting on & everyone here is very supportive - they got me through the program and are just fabulous x
No stamina? Then let me sell you this........a training plan where you are in control. You try your hardest and if you still don't complete the workout, then you simply repeat it until your stamina has developed until you can, then you move on to the next challenge.
For a special, once only price for today of three quarters of an hour, three days per week for the unmissable period of 8 weeks minimum, rising to an incredible however long it takes you to get there, I offer you graduation from NHS C25K along with a lifelong appreciation of the massive benefits of regular physical exercise to both your body and mind.
Don't miss this offer!! It has worked for thousands of satisfied customers who believed enough in the plan to change their lives. This is yours for a minimal commitment. You know it makes sense.
C25K WORKS!!!!!! DO IT!!!!
Slow and steady definitely wins the race, but be careful not to be too scared to move on. I stayed in week one for ages and was too scared to move on to the next week because I was scared I'd not cope. Finally I forced myself and was amazed that I fared better than I thought. Now on W3r2. And it's been hard but I've done it! Dreading going onto W4 with the 5 minute stretches, but I'm determined to do it, even if I end up 'running' slower than I would normally walk, I still feel elated when I reach the end. I can feel that I am getting stronger. The program definitely works. I also hate the thought of passers by sniggering, so I run early in the morning before most people are up! Stick with it! It hasn't got easier, but I've realised I'm beginning to run for longer and that's amazing. I keep the Park Run, crossing the finishing line in my mind and that keeps me focused. Good luck!
Well done for getting through the first run! I did CouchTo5k a few years ago. My friends couldn't believe it as I'm definitely not the sporty type. Then I helped them through it too. Keep with it and I promise You can do it, even the days you'd sure you can't you will amaze yourself. It's getting out that's the main step. I had a two year break from running for one reason or another, but today, (significantly heavier) I did week 1, run 1. Good luck and please wish me luck too 😁
