New runner : Hi. I have just ordered my running... - Couch to 5K
New runner
Hi
Welcome to the best forum
A bit of advice you will hear a lot on here: do the run sections slow slow slow
Keep posting and reading other posts, you will receive lots of support and encouragement
Good luck for Monday and let us know how you get on x
Hello LouiseKK
Simply enjoy the experience of lacing up those new trainers and placing one foot in front of the other, particularly as the weather improves.
Don't worry about speed since that'll come. Concentrate upon running at a pace that feels comfortable throughout, making use of the walking breaks (they exist for a reason).
You should end each session fatigued, but still feeling as though you could have pushed yourself a little harder. Maintaining this ethos ensures that motivation and enthusiasm for the activity is retained, while also helping to prevent injury.
Wishing you well upon your journey towards being a regular runner.
Hi! All I do is listen to my running Music, (Stone Roses!) and look ahead and go! I'm lost in it. I love it! Best of luck!
Welcome LouiseKK! I found that I had to make myself go for the first few weeks but I suddenly hit a point where I really wanted to run and I now miss it on rest days. I have just graduated and it took me a little under 9 weeks as I ran every other day for the most part so not long to get addicted! Now I just hope I stay addicted! Will be lovely to follow your journey- enjoy the new shoes!
Ooh Stome Roses! I run to the remixed version of Resurrction which is utterly fab
Oops, digressing there, sorry Louise
Welcome to C25k. Just go nice and slow. That's it. Have fun. 😀
Welcome! Good for you for making the decision.
Everyone here will advise you to take it very slow on the running. I would also add that I found the first two weeks the hardest as I was so unfit. So if you find it really hard slow down and keep going because you WILL get fitter - the programme really does work! From starting and finding running for 60 seconds nearly killed me, I now run 5k 3x week (I graduated 3 weeks ago).
Enjoy!!
How is it going for you? First week is hard But it is doable at your own pace
I just did a 10,000 step walk. Hope that will help come Monday. Is that a good starting point or should I just start Monday with my new boots :0). Thank you all.
Honestly Louise, when I was able to completely Day one it has to be possible for just about anyone this side of a wheelchair and iron lung machine
It's very supportive to have the structure of the programme as you progress. Don't worry about the "9 weeks" thing or reaching ,5k within them - darn few graduate with that record.
Just do what actually is one of the most non-intuitive things in the whole process - run VERY VERY.....VERY....Slowly.
It's about using and building up body systems and Dynamics you have never utilised before so forget about speed and distance OK ?
And also remember.. all of us come from exactly where you are now so ease don't ever think you are "terminally unique" and doomed to failure
You have a good attitude already, now just do the hardest bit of all - going out the door. The rest WILL flow if you just do that shortest of walks
Happy (slow) Running
