I'm 58 and started the couch to 5K program two days ago. Hoping to lose weight and get generally fitter and healthier. The first runs went OK but the legs did complain somewhat after all the inactivity. No matter, looking forward to seeing where this takes me...

Thank you Sugarplum16, I'll most certainly keep updating with thoughts and progress. Today is a resting day for me - next run/walk will be tomorrow. I too look forward to hearing about your thoughts and exploits. Good luck !

Good for you! I started the programme just before my 57th birthday and I've just had my 59th and am running every other day, and loving it, having never run before c25k.

Your body will protest if you have not been used to exercise, which is why we say take it steady. No rush. Just go nice and slow. It needs to be a pleasure rather than a chore so a slow jog is all you need 😄

Have fun

Well done for getting started - C25K is a great programme. Are you using the app or the podcasts? I found the podcasts worked best for me - the app was more prone to technology fail and, like so many others on this forum, I like having Laura talking me through runs. As others have said, keep it slow - don't worry about distance. If you've done the times for that run you've completed it - the 5k bit is likely to come well after you successfully complete week 9 with 30 minutes running and there are a lot of us who take longer than 30 mins to do 5k. As misswobble said, it's important to do it so that you can enjoy it. It's important not to injure yourself too, so follow the rest day instructions.

I started in the summer, 5 years older than you, not having run before but wanting to be a bit fitter - I had no idea how much I would love it both when I am out and for the good feeling when I get back from a run. Hope you can enjoy it like that too.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. I did the first day using the app, then the 2nd with the podcast. I do agree that the podcast is somewhat nicer and this is what I will stick with in future.

Great that you've started this programme, you won't regret it! Take it slow and steady, it's not a race. Try to enjoy it, have fun, there are some truly amazing people on this forum, welcome to our virtual family of Runners! 👏🏻👏🏻😊

Welcome to the one with a very appropriate name! You'll realise very quickly as you progress why so many of us are almost evangelical about the program (and about this wonderful forum). Getting fit is only one of the myriad benefits :) Look forward to cheering you on your way!
