Operation

Morning. I'm a bit concerned. I'm having an operation on 21st January, key hole, surgery hopefully. The literature says about 2 weeks recovery. This doesn't sound long, but I'm afraid I may revert back to my old ways. Not exercising and making poor choices over food. Can anyone advise me please?

Sorry to hear that. Hope it goes well. Would suggest walking. Listen to your body it will let you know how.much you can do. Good luck.

Keep running up until you have to stop for your op - and keep coming here during your time on the injury couch, so you keep motivated and supported... And while you're on the IC, think of the progress you've made and your determination not to go back to where you started... You can do this! :)

Well.. I hope it all goes well :)

Is there no exercise you are able to do at all, after the op... strength and flex. or sitting exercises? Just something to keep you motivated. I don't know how incapacitated you will be obvioulsy :)

I fell and popped a couple of ribs , 6 weeks before Christmas, and after the check out that nothing was damaged other than ribs, kept moving by using my cross-trainer.. to keep me moving, ( I am old though) :) Low impact, and no incline or resistance, so literally just holding on and moving my legs!

Physically, a couple of weeks on the IC is no real problem, if you start again slow and steady, but I can see the mental side is worrying you! Plan some tasty but healthy meals.. they are out there...if you cannot exercise your body, then exercise your mind, plan some new routes..:)

Don't let the pesky mind gremlins win!!!!

Thanks Oldfloss. That's really helpful. I don't know how incapacitated I'll be either. Yes, I was thinking walk as soon as able to, and I thought I'd get some low calorie microwave food for the first few days. Or I could cook in advance. This would keep me super busy, and my mind of it!😜 I belong to a walking/ jogging/ running group as well as going out on my own. So could join the walkers asap. I'll keep posting here to.

it seems to me that by being aware of the danger of forced inactivity for a while, and planning in advance, you're setting yourself up well. :) Thinking through the temptations of junk food and comfort eating mean you can ensure you have healthier food and snacks around; planning to walk or move around when you reasonably can will give you a focus and target too :)
