Still doing 5k
Hi Ballanty . Do you need to be doing 5k in less than 30 mins? Have you thought about trying other things?
I think that speed comes once your stamina is really improved, and its a good idea to build on that first. There are the c25k + podcasts, and I like the bridge to 10k podcasts which help you increase your distances by introducing run/walk intervals. You have been consolidating the 30 min run for a couple of months now so a change might be a good idea.
Do not worry about having a walk break (its only 60 secs) and you will be doing longer and longer intervals as you work through the plan. You can still do a 30 min non stop run some days and see if your speed has increased.
Running is fun. Good luck.😊
I'm doing 5k in 32 minutes. I wouldn't let it worry you tbh.
And I have no idea how I got the text in italics...don't know how to undo it either!
I graduated around a year ago and have run three times a week every week (now 2 x 5k and a 10k)! My first parkrun 5k was 43 minutes. Today I ran in the frosty darkness in 36 and my fastest ever has been 34 minutes. I am not sure I will ever do a sub 30 minute and in any case I don't want to mash up my knees! I guess I could go all out to run faster but right now, my mind is set on a 2017 km in 2017 challenge I have started. I will be counting all my running, walking, cycling and aerobic distances so I need to look after myself
I can't get under 30 minutes yet, don't know if I ever will, but I just love running, when I am able. I look upon my runs as "what new things am I going to discover this time?" For me, it's not about the speed, it's about being content in the moment, savouring every sight, smell, sound, feeling. I think you're doing really well, but don't think you should be concerned about the time that it takes you to do 5K. Just enjoy your running. 😊👏🏻👏🏻🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻
As a new runner, I found increasing my distance improved my speed. Have you tried parkrun? That tiny competitive edge normally helps people to run faster and is where all my PBs have come.
Look into varying your training. The same run all the time is good but isn't necessarily pushing you on.
Do some internet searches on, intervals, hill training, speed training, all these things should help. Mix up the training, to improve all aspects.
Your 5k runs ad further will be good for stamina, intervals will make your heart and lungs work more as they constantly change workload. All these working together will help with the speed.
