Swimming?

Just joined. Hate running but it's got to be done. Problem is, I live on a small boat and it's sometimes a real problem to find somewhere to run. Swimming isn't a problem though... Is there an equivalent program for swimming rather than running?

Thx

Hello Tplink

Shame about your feelings re running but it is what it is.

I know that at the end of the Stepping Stones podcast prepared by Audio Fuel the commentator mentions other podcasts can be found for swimming, spinning and walking so there must be. You can find Audio Fuel on iTunes.

Good luck

Found this in the older posts, might interest you:

Isn't there a towpath where you are? Or are you actually out at sea?

I live in a very built up area and I don't like running on pavement, I am carrying nearly 2 stone in extra weight and I don't like the strain on my knees. So I am slightly ashamed to say I've been driving to our local common then running round the perimeter of it with the dog. Seems to work.

Sarah, out at sea often or near undeveloped islands - running on the beach is possible but - of course that's much harder when it comes to running for a period of time. Thx for your suggestion and good luck - Run where you're most comfortable I'd say!

The UK ASA at swimming.org have a variety of fitness programmes around swimming - and I am doing a virtual river swim. I am guessing you may not be in the UK though.

If you do feel that running 'has to be done' (it's a great form of exercise, but it doesn't) then the structure of the NHS Couch to 5K programme may suit you as it takes you in gently and we'll all shout at you to go slower.

I agree... it sounds like running is not for you so i wouldnt!! .... I did alot of swimming before I ran and I just kept upping the distance. I really want to do this for 2017: facebook.com/events/4594795...

If not near you there will be similar as its something fab to aim for.....

Loads of people don't start running because they say they hate it. Most have not actually run since school. The overwhelming majority of folk who post on this site (myself included) are stunned to find that they actually love running, when they are in control, rather than some sadistic sports teacher. There are, I will acknowledge, the unlucky minority who do not develop a love for running and I hope that you don't fall into that category, but give it a go and you might surprise yourself. Canal towpaths and river banks are favourite spots for runners.

Keep us posted.
