Am still on Week 6 run1, am finding anything longer than 5 minutes hard so kep going back to this run which I just about manage! the idea of doing 2 x 10 minute runs fills me with dread!!!
Frustrated!!: Am still on Week 6 run1, am... - Couch to 5K
Frustrated!!
Week six seems to be the bugaboo from what I see on the Forum. Maybe it would be helpful to move to the next stage - after all, you have done the five minutes build up to the 2x10s just like you built up to the five minutes - one run at a time, be it a 'practice' or a 'success' day.
You will get their in the end, just run your own pace - slow down - and keep in mind that hardly anyone finishes the programme 'on time and with distance'
Slow and steady and just keeping going out the door will get you there, believe me
I bet you that 95 percent of the people on this forum can confirm that the first 5-8 minutes of any run is the hardest - honestly - Every Single Time I run, I feel like giving up after 5 minutes. If I can push through it, and make it past 8, I find my rhythm, my breathy becomes steady, and I no longer feel like I might die. Try to push past it - just give it a shot - I felt the same way until I actually pushed it (with Laura). Take your time - slow down a bit - don't go too fast in the first 10 minutes - speed can come later. I was so afraid of moving on, I avoided peeking at what was coming lest it put me off completely. Don't give up!!
Just go for it!
What's the worst that can happen? You go slow, slower - slower still?!
What's the best that can happen? You do it & are ready to move on AND you have the satisfaction of completing it.
Look forward to hearing about wk6r2!!!
I agree with RuNananana the first 5-10 mins are the worst. I want to give up every single time. Some runs take me 20 mins before I'm comfortable! You just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and saying "I can do this". At this point of the programme it's more of a mental challenge than a physical one. Good luck!
I think it's partly a mental challenge, in so far as your mind tells you that you can't do it, but your body is probably ready, willing and able. I would go for it, but perhaps take it very slowly. Remember that we are running by your side, cheering you on every step of the way. 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼♀️🏃🏻👏🏻👏🏻😀😀👏🏻👏🏻
Flossie's absolutely right - it's probably about week 7 or so, when people start to realise that this is much more of a mental challenge than people think, and then adding another 5 minutes, then another 5 minutes doesn't become quite so daunting. The first part of the run is the tough part until you get into a rhythm. Set off at a gently pace to make sure you can cover the time - you can do it!
The first bit of every run is always the hardest. I just grit my teeth and tell myself that it's only 5 or 6 minutes or 2 music tracks and invariably everything after that is much easier. You can do it.
Yep, the gremlins hang around for the first five/ten minutes. I read somewhere that this happens on every run, for every runner. Something to do with your body wondering quite what you are putting it through....Take it slowly, keep building it up, it's fine to have a "practice run". You will get there!
