After doing my first 5k and Park run at the same time which took me 42 mins I was then off with a foot injury for over 2 months. Have now started back running (well actually more of a slow trot) I am finding it really hard going, today I managed to do 5K but it took me nearly 47 mins. I feel so frustrated that I am so slow, my ambition is to do it in maybe 35 mins and to increase my distance with my goal being able to run 10K. I have been getting up at silly hours to run when nobody is about as at 69 yrs old I think I am too old to run, however today I decided to put my big girl pants on and went later, must admit I felt proud of myself for doing it. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated

Never too old to run, I am 72 and graduated 3 weeks after that.

You’re brilliant. I’m 20 years younger and as of today a 20 minute run had me feeling like I had run for 2 hours.

All I can say is wow! Good time for your first parkrun - I’m ‘only’ 54 and my time was 41.30!

As for losing some speed after time off, that’s surely to be expected, so I wouldn’t worry at all. And go out whenever you like. Absolutely nobody will judge you. Runners will think good for you, non-runners will think it should be them.

Just keep running. Your time will improve gradually and the more miles/kms in your legs, the stronger they’ll become. I’m definitely ‘speeding’ up (possibly not the right word! 🐌🐌🐌) and loving it more each time!

Go on 4945, you’re awesome and you’ve got this! 👏👏👏👏👏

I think you are doing great. I am similar age and similar "speed" but we get out there!
