It's been about three weeks since Graduation, and I've not been out much since - I did 4.5K in about 33 minutes first time, then a couple of days later to the Canal - where I did 4.2K in 30 minutes, on a lovely cold but clear day - photo attached!
Then, two days later, I woke up with a sore throat. And then it developed into a cold and hacking cough, and I thought it best to listen to my body and take a break.... it's taken two weeks for me to feel that it's improving enough to let me run, so today I've finally got back out there - though admittedly I've stuck to my local lap (just under a mile) so that I could stop if needed. After just under 20 minutes, the cough started, and so I jogged a little further towards home and then finished, covering just over 3K in 22 minutes - not bad pace for me, and it feels like a step forward again. Whether I'll be ready for the Parkrun on Christmas Eve I'll have to see, but one thing I will tell you - it's shown me how much I miss this if I don't get out there!
Oh, and the Treadmill is on order - though it won't arrive until New Year.... I suspect I'm always going to prefer being out, but it will be nice to have the option as and when the weather is abysmal!

That canal route looks lovely - I think I may be a little jealous of it - it's so lovely to get outside. I've pretty much given up running at the gym now, as I can't seem to get myself at all motivated by it, even though I started the C25K programme as my warm up to my gym sessions on the treadmill. It's funny how the great outdoors seems to make it less arduous than slogging away at the gym. Hope you feel better soon and can get back into your stride.
Ahhh....the Llangollen Canal I believe 🤔 (Not sad enough to recognise it just from a bridge - been stalking your posts 😂) Lovely place, was there in the summer. Reading your post about solo boaters and lift bridges - it's difficult as the powers that be never put bollards in the right place - indeed the only one available at one of the bridges in Wrenbury was helpfully used to attach the "Beware wasps nest" sign 😳 -luckily there's usually two of us. Always try to be quick with bridges if there's walkers and runners about. Cars that rev their engines are, however, fair game 👍
Enjoy your running on canals - they are great, especially at this time of year..
Yes, it's near the Whitchurch Arm going down towards the staircase locks at Grindley Brook.... I live a five minute brisk walk down the Sandstone Trail from the end of the arm, it's a great place to run unless it's slippery!
What a lovely place to run! I've just recently got a treadmill (today actually lol) and did my first run on it. It's great for when you can't get out but I think, like you, I prefer outdoors running.
That looks lovely. It's great to get out again when you've been confined for some reason. You may not run all of parkrun but you'll complete the circuit no problem by the looks of this. Happy running
Eh. It happens. We have a nasty cold going around that has been taking everyone out for two weeks. It is a bit of a nice break for the running legs, and you really appreciate those first few runs back. Hope you feel healthy for Parkrun, but it sounds like you're on the mend.
