My 5th Parkrun and I wasn`t last . Took my music with me and it seamed to help . It was only seconds faster but I still feel great about it.

I only managed 1 mile yesterday before I had to drop out :(

A mile is great! We have folks stop at our halfway point. It's something to build on.

I had a calf muscle issue so was a bit gutted as I thought it was sorted but think I started of way to fast instead of going at my usual 12-13 min mile at one point I was 10.35 so too fast causing injury so that's not good :(

Can I run with my headphones and listen to music? Parkrun recommendations......

We would rather you didn't - it makes it difficult for our marshals to communicate with you.

Our events have a special community feel, which you cut yourself off from when wearing headphones.

We appreciate that some runners do feel naked without their music so they are not banned outright.

We do ask that as a courtesy to the volunteers, you remove headphones from your ears during the safety briefing before the start, and on approaching the finish area.

Finally please keep the volume at a suitable level to be able to hear any marshals instructions out on the course too.

I had bluetooth headphones and only one ear in , the other I tucked away so I could still hear runners coming up behind me and all the cheering and praise from everyone as I went along.

Everyone at ours runs with them, and at all our races. Much like everything else in life, just use responsibly.

We have a one ear only rule and that seems to work. Personally, I ditched the earphones after Laura on C25K but I realise that music really helps some people, particularly at the start of their running lives 😀

Well done. A finely crafted playlist can really make or break a run for me. I'm in need of making a new one for my Parkrun for the big hill at the end. Something slow and inspirational.

Such an important post to share, thank you. So many people think they will die if they come last in something and never risk it, forgetting the value in taking part, forgetting that someone is always going to be last but that someone is always ahead of the people who didn't try. You did it and you ran again and again and again, and now you have the reward you deserve. Bravo!
