Hats for running in the cold 🎩👒🎓⛑🕵👮👳‍♀️🎅🏼😂

Does anyone have any advice on what kind of hat to use in the winter please? I am not a hat person but use a peaked visor in summer, moving to a cap etc, I can just about cope with those. But on these colder mornings what to use? I have a buff but I'm not keen to use this as a hat. Do I really need an expensive wicking hat if it's not strictly necessary?

Hi Dave, thanks for that. But will any beany hat do or does it have to be a lined, wicking one to avoid sweating.......ahhhhhhhh.

The thing is I know I get v warm so am worried about a beanie. But as Dave says above, breathable looks to be the way forward. Some are quite pricey though!

A couple of years ago my husband very kindly bought me a polar buff. It nearly killed me it was so hot, like being throttled by a demented blacksmith. It made a very fine hat though until I lost it

I just bought a Ronhill beanie hat £11i think ! It's a lovely pink and pulls over ears & keeps earphones in place as well!!! I was buying socks & that's only reason it's Ronhill but it is cosy!!! Not sure if it's wicker or not😊

You could perhaps try a running headband? I have one so it keeps my ears and forehead warm but doesn't cover the whole of your head. Mine was a cheapy and I find it pretty good! You could always wear a festive Santa hat once December hits!

Cheap ones. If you're like me, you'll overheat sometimes and rip your hat off and stuff it in your pocket. Same with gloves. They're easy to lose so don't buy anything too dear.

I wear a 99p one from Decathlon, might not be what you'd see the stunning models wearing on the catwalk, 😉, but it's toasty and light, so if I take it off because I'm too hot, it's easy to carry. 😊

Ive got a baseball cap for when its raining so the peak keeps the rain off my specs and I have a little beanie hat that pulls down over my ears for when its cold xxx

Ive never work a hat for cold running, I don't think - only my baseball cap for rain or sun! I warm up quickOh enough once I get going that I don't think I'd ever want one...

If it's really cold I prefer wearing a running top with a hood. My head seems to get hot quickly so I find this much easier than messing about with a hat during a run. I've got a couple of hooded running tops from sports direct, I think they were around £20.

My trusty Thinsulate black hat... it saw me through the coldest wettest, iciest and windiest winter last year... I pull it down over my ears and my buff up to meet it... snug as a bug in a rug... Warm and non sweaty... I have my running one and a 'best'one

I just have my buff folded into a band that covers my ears. It leaves the top of my head open which prevents me getting too hot. if it is raining I pop my cap on over my buff headband. it fits snugly over the buff. I could leave the buff off but it holds my earphones in place 😊

I have various beanies and 2 full head cover jobs that are unused. I get too hot. I need a blow hole on top of my head for steam to escape 😊

I have this Pearl Izumi Barrier cycling cap, it's fabulous (apart from the fact that it looks a bit silly ) because it keeps the rain/sun out of my eyes, keeps my ears warm even though it's really light, and is machine-washable. I don't remember paying that much money for it, but then I've had it a while...

I wear a hat I knitted myself, I think it's a cashmere/merino blend but I can't remember. It's my everyday hat so it's all I have. It works really well even if it isn't particularly sporty looking!
