My first parkrun 5k

After 9 weeks of running from beginner to 5k, I have finally plucked up the courage to do a parkrun. The park is a half mile jog from home so it seemed like an ideal setting but running with 700 other runners was very overwhelming to me as I don't feel like a runner! So I managed to dodge and weave around slower runners at the start and kept a good pace throughout. I ran all the way up the inclines and down again. It felt quite intimidating when the front runners came past on their second loop. So I managed the 5k in 32.03. I was actually smiling whilst running! Hopefully the cameraman caught my smile.

Brilliant! I think you've done it before? Great first time!😊

No I have never done a parkrun before. Ten years ago I used to play a lot of hockey and did 1 or 2 runs a week of 3-5miles. I did a race for life back then in 26-27minutes. But in the last 10 years I have had children so fitness has disappeared along with any time to exercise. 9 weeks ago I started walk/run etc. I feel like a lumbering elephant but would like to feel like a gazelle!

Yes I will go again but not every week as hubs and I will have to alternate with kids at home. It was a good first experience and hasn't put me off at all!
