Oh my giddy aunt!!! I can't quite believe I've done it π
I started this journey on July 10th after quitting smoking on June 13th (4 months today!).... I had decided to give C25K a go but told everyone I was just doing some brisk walking in case I couldn't do it π
Anyways the first week I seriously thought I would die after some of those runs π
Each time I came home with a lobster red face and a huge smile when I managed another run! On week 3 a friend from work decided she wanted to give it a go so we went back a week and she joined me on the runs.
I stalled badly at week 5 when I got stuck on run 2.....7 times it took me to complete that damned run but complete it I did with the help of you guys and your great support and advice π
Throughout my C25k journey my dad has been very sick in hospital so I've squeezed my runs in between work and hospital visiting....I've spent hours in critical care with him and then put my running shoes on and completed another run! It's all passed in a bit of a blur to be honest at times....there have been runs when I have cried my whole run through but it's helped me focus on something else. So along celebrating my graduation run and stopping smoking for 4 months .....I can also celebrate my dad coming home from hospital after ten long weeks ππΎπ
Thank you to everyone! I've gained huge inspiration from all of your stories! Right....where's that glass of well deserved wine???!!!!

Wow! That's been some roller coaster for you. You did it though! Well done and many congratulations. Running can often be just the thing we need to get out and away from our problems for a short while and just chill out with a run.
Pleased to hear your dad is home too. That must be such a relief
No stopping me now! I've signed up for a 10k next Easter and we have got our next few weeks runs all planned out. I think it's fair to say I'm addicted to this running malarkey π
Congratulations! You sound like a determined person, with a lot of grit to have achieved all that in difficult circumstances. Enjoy that glass of wine, and enjoy the next stage of your running journey, wherever that takes you. And of course enjoy having your dad back home. ππΌππΌππ·
I just wanted to say a Massive Well done to you , stopping smoking is tough, and to do that whilst you were under such stress with your Dad being ill, takes some guts Missus !
Stopping smoking and doing this programme are two of the best decisions I have ever made , real life changers !
You have shown such determination , youre made of strong stuff that's for sure ! Many Congratulations on your Graduation and I am so pleased that your Dad is out of danger and coming home .
Glad to hear that Miriam. Racing is just a huge blast! It's such fun I can't tell you. I think it's something that just changes your whole mindset. Ok you've run for 30 minutes and can do 5k ish. You might be a person of a certain age who has never done much exercise, so to find yourself in a race for the first time is a bit of an unknown quantity and you have no idea what the general vibe is or how you'll do as it's all unchartered water.
Not so long back, post Graduate, I pitched up on a cold Sunday for a local 10k, and as I was running round the hilly course, I asked myself who I thought I was kidding. A 57 year old new runner, what the hell was I thinking. I looked about me and noticed I was surrounded by middle aged women and some well beyond that! All running like the clappers, some not so much, but all with either a smile or grim determination, and generally giving it large. I thought to hell with it, if they can do it then so can I, and ran on. It was a bloody blast, and I had so much fun that I vowed to keep doing it til they nail the lid on
Racing again tomorrow. This time it's my FIRST ever fell race. Only a short one but hey one has to start somewhere.
