Bulging discs

I have been told after an MRI scan that I have multiple bulging discs! Should I carry on running or take up an alternative exercise? I have constant lower back ache and was told that eventually I will need a back op!

Oh I am so sorry to hear this ,it must be awful being in constant pain.

Regarding the running, I would ask advice from your consultant .

Good Luck and I really hope you are soon on the road to recovery xxx

Dear Nannynicky - what I do know is that if 100 of us randomly had an MRI of our spines, many many of us would be given surprising news - that we too had disintegrating/ degenerating/ dehydrated/ bulging or otherwise damaged discs that we just weren't aware of. Yes, you should check with your specialist or physio whether you are fit to run, most of us are, and if this is thee case for you, please think about doing some Pilates too. Good luck, hope to see your future posts on the forum as you progress through C25k!

My husband has been recommended by his gym to do Pilates for his back issues. Pilates will help strengthen your whole body, not just the back. Maintaining a healthy body weight is key with back pain issues so whatever exercise you can do will help. I think the thing is to keep moving at all costs. Getting overweight is a real no-no if you are in pain with your back

C25k is not strenuous exercise, not at first anyway. Just a few short jogs but mostly walking. Walking is really good exercise too! I do it all the time
