Post-holiday running mini-goals

Did my first post-holiday/second post graduate run this afternoon. It was hard work! I haven't done any running for two and a half weeks though have done plenty of walking.

I gave myself the goal of doing 30 minutes slow running but wondered if I'd been over ambitious after the first 10 when a stitch kicked in. I definitely blame not drinking enough over the last couple of days for this, and a large curry take-a-way last night. I need to get back into the drinking water habit now I'm back.

I got through the first second and third bouts of stitch but then the psychological gremlins kicked in and I started thinking that I could just stop at 20 minutes or when I reached the turn off for my house. I reached that point at 25 minutes and decided to go to the next corner, then to continue past the allotments, then to the start of the tennis court, then to the end of the court. I was aiming for next lamp posts by the end of the 30 minutes. Mini-goals certainly worked and I did 30 minutes!

I didn't run as fast or as far as before the holiday but who cares? I can still run for 30 minutes and it feels great. I can now work towards getting to the magic 5km one lamp post at a time.

That's great 👏 It is great when you can use markers to keep yourself going 😀

Excellent that is exactly the type of motivation I use to get further. If I think I must run a distance I feel like giving up but if I keep going with small goals I get there. I am about to take a 2 week break for holiday so I shall see what I am like when I come back.

Holidays have made me give up previously so I don't intend this one to have that effect.

So you beat a stitch and rubbed several gremlins' faces in the dirt? Good for you!
