Venturing into the great outdoors.....

So after completing the c25k on the treadmill tonight I am venturing outside with a friend for a 5k run! To say I am slightly nervous is an understatement but if I want to improve I need to make the big step out of my comfort zone. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to transition without any issues??

Just take it slow as you have to pace yourself now if you friend is an experienced runner make sure she goes at a pace you are happy with.

Well done you! Just take it slow, I would view it as a chance to have a chat and catch up with a mate, and you just happen to be jogging along.....I like a bit of a chat, and remember if you can talk you're going just right.

Have fun, enjoy!

It's no different to walking, except quicker. Same rules apply. Get out there and have fun ☺

Yes I made the transition and found you need to run very very slowly outside. It's harder to pace yourself outside but if you take it slowly you'll be fine. One thing I did was ease into it as your joints need to get used to the different surface. I ran one in three runs outside for the first week then increased this gradually. Enjoy the big, beautiful outdoors!

Thanks for your replies, I took it in my stride, went slow and had a good natter...... managed the 5k in just under 35 minutes 😃 Not my fastest but I did it and really enjoyed the experience too.
