Strength & Flexibility Podcasts?

Hi all,

I was looking at the NHS C25K website, (looking ahead, though I know I shouldn't), and it's suggestion of doing their strength and flexibility series caught my eye. I'm trying to improve my overall fitness, so I'm thinking I should give it a go at some point.

Just wondering if any of you did this on rest days during the programme? Did it help your running? I'm slightly concerned, because my fitness isn't great, so would being sore from exercising six days a week hurt my ability to progress on the longer runs? Next week I'm tackling week five. Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I am on week 8 of c25k and started strength and flex last week. The first week seemed relatively straightforward and did not affect my running but the stretches were probably useful in the long run. I had not run before I started this programme. Hope that is heloful. Give it a go....

They are good. Laura does em! I did them on non-run days. They are not overly strenuous so I wouldn't worry ☺

Thank you! I didn't realize they're Laura! 😊 I'll start them soon, then. I'm hoping a bit more strength and stretching will banish those pesky niggles I'm still getting!

I am off on holiday Saturday and if I can get them to play I will do them next week as an alternative to running.....or I might just lay back in the sun and relax. :D

You shouldn't have any problem; the strength & flex routine is not particularly hard and focuses mainly on different muscles and movements do that you do not end up overexerting.

Strengthening your core will improve your stability while running, ultimately making it easier and less exhausting.

So you can go ahead with your plan without any worry. ;)

While I was doing C25K I didn't do anything on rest days except rest :-) but I am sure a combination will be fine. I do lots of strength training now both on running days and rest days, and it is not a problem.

Not what you're looking for?
