With thanks to davelinks who posted about last nights programme, I was really interested in the exercise comparison study they did. This High Intensity Interval Training programme was carried out at home by volunteers (no equipment needed) and resulted in a 12% improvement in VO2 max levels after just 4 weeks. As always, take medical advice where needed, but I think I might give it a go as part of my cross training! Only takes about 10 mins. Hope the link works.π

It was a really good programme wasn't it???
Hey Sandra
Interval training really does improve your fitness
Been doing it recently and here's a killer session for you to try
10 min warm up run
Then 2 mins hard with a 1 min jog recovery six times
Then 5 min warm down jog
Graxx
The research definately backs up the efficacy of it. That session really does sound tough - don't think I could sustain running 'hard' for 2 minutes! Will keep it in mind for 'the future' though!!π¬
The Home HIIT exercises and the results from the programme can be found here - tinyurl.com/gvgjbjr
I like the sound of the interval training though - just lack the motivation for doing it on my own at the moment
I do Jillian Michaels DVD at home, on my own, sort of kick my own ass! I love them and they get you pouring with sweat but only for short periods and involving all your body parts.
Get jiggy Ziggy!
I read the article about this and have yet to watch the programme. But I did pop into Decathlon to buy a couple of hand grip exercisers. The 15 kg ones, two forΒ£3.95. I couldn't even move the 50kg ones!
Apparently they should also help me with my guitar playing
I thought it was good program, and will give these exercises a go! I've watch the video and don't know whether I will be able to do the mountain climber but we'll see! Have a nice weekend Sandra! π
Yep, totally agree about the mountain climber Frank! That young girl was powering through them but they look really tough! Enjoy the rest of your w/e too!π
We did the stair climbing at the abs class I went to for a few months and it's a killer! I think we did 30 seconds and I didn't know the name of this evil little exercise...
Just managed to watch the video part of this (internet so bad earlier that it even told me I had insufficient bandwidth to play it!). I'm going to give it a go as I think it'll go well with running (realistically twice a week) and the abs exercises I'm carrying on with.
Tell you something though ... I'm going to be using the old C25K strategy of building up slowly. If I can only do bursts of 10 seconds to start with before resting for 90, it's a starting point, isn't it!
I'm just a bit confused because they said 5 sets of exercises on the page then only listed 4 in the video: star jumps, mountain climbing, high knees, star jumps. Was another one repeated?
Yes love your strategy - tried it yesterday and oh my gosh realised that despite fin C25k and thinking I was doing so well my fitness is still so poor!! Every 60 seconds seemed to go on forever!! Could barely manage 30 secs of the evil mountain climbers and the high steps.., and was confused too about the 5 sets??? good luck to you - will try again next week ππ½
