Hello seaspirit , what a lovely name! I'm new here too in that this is my first ever reply to a post but I've been following this fantastic programme and forum since May; if you stick with it it really does work, and the advice and support from the folks on here is tremendous.

I wish you well on your (exciting!) journey.

thanks big scary world out there, only just starting to go out on my own again, always had someone taking me places, since I was 16. the cull is going slowly, waiting for a charity shop to pick up hopefully most of it, but Loki took against the bed seatee and has trashed it, so that needs a trip to the trip when someone brings a car

Hello and welcome! Are you starting the Couch to 5k programme? It's very empowering I think, and easy to follow. And everyone here is encouraging and helpful!

(PS. Totally love your bag!)

thanks, part of the finding me, not really looking to run ( too old and arthritic) but there wasn't a more suitable one) I hoping to just get fitter, and walk more

Hi perhaps you could use the c25k podcasts and walk the run parts quicker than the walk parts to build fitness? You may get tempted to run (thats what lots of us call a very slow jog). Good luck.☺

we used to call that wolf running when you walk a bit then run some, amazing how fast we got places, but then we were kids

hurts my hip to run, got to nurse the arthritis, uncomfortable to walk slow too, it's to do with the pressure on the hip

using all the exercise time to sort the flat at the moment, been meaning to do it for ages, but couldn't raise the necessary energy .Think I am quite pleased with what I have at the moment, but won't know really till the charity shop comes to take the extras, and one of the family gets the car over to take stuff to the tip, hate relying on people

my walking is improving slowly, can manage about a mile now and recovery is better the next day, never going to manage the 30, I used to do. ( was a time when 10 doors along a terrace was too far)

Welcome!! The C25k programme is simply amazing, it really will change your life!

People of all ages and sizes with all manner of health issues have completed this programme and there is great advice available here from all of them!

The advice to try to podcasts and walk faster on the 'run' intervals of the programme could work well? Then you could always break into a slow jog if you feel like you could? Some people have even found that running helps alleviate some aches and pains. The advice for the programme is to go slowly (even when you think you're going slowly, slow down a bit more and that will be the best pace to run at), stretch, take your rest days. You could also try the NHS strength and flex podcasts too?

Keep us here updated - as I say the forum is full of incredible, inspirational people so do use it for advice, encouragement and to let us celebrate your successes with you. :)

don't have anything to play a podcast, festival at the weekend. expecting to do lots of walking there as think it will be too crowded for my scooter, especially round the stalls

Plenty of good advice on here. No matter what your goal is be it to walk longer or faster to get fitter. It's the feeling of achieving something that you perhaps thought you couldn't do and feeling good physically and mentally. It has worked for me. Obviously everyone starts with different fitness levels and health issues and as on this site everyone says listen to your own body. Do what you are happy with and your not in a competition with others only with your own goals.
