Any suggestions for free running apps? I need a fresh challenge

Hi everyone, I graduated in March and since then I have been using the couch to 5K plus podcasts for many of my runs and they have been great at giving me targets, despite some problems getting them to download and run in full. Recently though, I have noticed a creeping reluctance to get out there, and the hot weather has not helped. I am still doing my 30 mins about 3x a week and manage about 4.75k in that time and I occasionally push on to 5k+.

Do you have any suggestions for free apps with music or other distractions? This not particularly ambitious runner is seeking variety and a few motivating targets. I have just got a new phone ( Samsung) so I am hoping those download glitches will be a thing of the past.

I've never used it but a while back Zombie Run was very popular... You can also download some running music from the Audio Fuel website (the people who did the music for the NHS podcasts). Sadly it's not the same kind of cheesy stuff that the podcasts use, but you can choose the bpm that you want to set your running pace etc.

What about an audio book that you only listen to while running? Something suspenseful or exciting?

I have Zombies Run , love it . I even added some really scary horror movie soundtracks to play in the background ( I know )

Scared myself half to death. I used to run down the street squeaking with excitement and terror ha ha :-D xxx

You make this sound fun but I can't say I have ever been a horror fan. Then again I never thought I was a runner either so you never know. I will take a look.

I am currently quite liking Rock my Run... I like it when i match the pace/music... it is really funny.. I speed up and slow down just for fun.. mostly when i have done my proper run! :) But then, I am loopy!

I have been listening to podcasts of old Desert Island Discs. There are lots to choose from and I find them really distracting. I'm trying to increase distance prior to Great South Run in September and the really interesting ones definitely keep me going, as running is the only time I listen. Record so far 2 and a bit episodes - need to get to 4!
