A message for any doubters

Hi,

At the start of this year, I was a 41 year old, 15 stone male who hadn't run a step in over 20 years. I had seen many people I know posting on various social media forums about there successes in 5K's 10K's, half marathons and even marathons in some cases, so I decided I needed to give it a go.

I made a start on the c25k program in late April, and I can tell you it was hard work..even those 1 minute runs had me huffing and puffing, even my own wife didn't think I would get past 2 weeks!!

After a few weeks I decided I would set myself a target and enter a 5K race proper... today being the day of the race. Even after getting behind due to holidays, I managed to get to the end of week 8 on the program by Wednesday.

Today I am proud to say I have completed my first 5K race!! And I couldn't have done it without this training plan. (30m 57s for those interested in times).

If any one is struggling or thinking of giving up.. DONT!! You can do it and it will be one of the best things you'll achieve.

I can thoroughly recommend entering a race, dont worry about times, there will be 15 min finishers all the way to over 1hour.

Thank you couch to 5k, can't wait to train for a 10k!

Thanks for the links, think I'm going to make sure I graduate, do a couple of 5k races ( mainly for the ice creams and cakes at the end 😁) and push on for a 10K. What sort of time frame is reasonable to go for do you think?

Great first 5k time... very impressive. Those one minutes of hell seem like forever ago. What a turnaround, enjoy the path to 10

I was a spectator at our local yearly 10k run this morning, like Tails303 there were many who were competing that were much more than my weight of 66 kilos/about 10st 5lbs,I do admire them so much in entering those 5 and 10k events to try and reduce their weight, I know that because some of them say that to me and also in various interviews on TV or even on these posts here on Healthunlocked
