SHIN SPLINTS :(

OK, so I was a complete idiot yesterday and decided it was OK to do a 200m sprint to the train station in flip flops (before anyone asks, I did make it onto my train on time) but now, I have horrible pain in my left shin on the outside. What on earth was I thinking? I have spent a lot of money getting good running shoes with insoles because of flat feet and then run in FLIP FLOPS! Feeling like a complete idiot :(

So, how long do I need to wait before I run? Started doing stretches etc.

May be a week or 2. Keep it easy and keep doing the stretches and some cross training. U ll be back very soon :)

Oh no! I think wearing flip flops is horrible for driving, running, even walking but definitely running. Must admit to wearing them and doing all of the above too. You are right though, we spend all our money on protecting our legs and building up fitness carefully but one moment of madness, could cause damage. Just rest for maybe up to a week from running, maybe wear sandals instead of flip flops and then try again on soft ground?

Many of us have done something stupid like this so you're not alone! Rest up, ice, stretch and ease into your next run.

Btw, there are flip flops and flip flops. I haven't worn them since I started running but I recently picked up a pair of snazzy coloured scholls in TKMaxx which are moulded to give support to your arches. So, it's worth maybe shopping around for similar.

Hey!

Thanks for your reply. Mine are Birkenstocks so fully moulded to your feet too, but just no cushion whatsoever and I was really going for it. Less a run and more a sprint :P
