Shin splints

Hi,

Having failed c25k twice, I’ve decided to give it another go. I got stuck on week 4 on both occasions due to shin splints. I’m on week one but getting pain on the 6th run. I manage to complete but not sure how to proceed.

Should I move on to week 2 or repeat week 1 until I have no pain?

I regularly swim and walk and once a week do Pilates and yoga. I don’t experience any pain with those.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes advice on pacing, minimising impact and stretching after every run, which will help.

You might also find this helpful runnersworld.com/shin-splints/

Have some extra rest days and follow the advice on minimising impact.

Enjoy your journey.

Great for trying c25k again , you've got determination if anything. Are you running in proper running trainers and when you land try to do this lightly and not thud thud. It will just take more practice.

C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here good luck 😊

Definitely read the tips from IannodaTruffe but you could also try the Japanese slow jogging technique - a low impact style of running designed to avoid injury. I first saw this in w6 and it changed everything for me as the durations increased. And I’ve had no pain or issues even though I took up running over weight, unfit & over 50!

There’s a few aspects of this running style - you can practice the landing while watching, the soft landing and short and stride are the key. Hope this helps.
