A hard lesson...

...So, despite having had D&V this week and not running since last Saturday I thought I'd be fine to do another 5k Parkrun this morning. In the rain. After a salty Chinese takeaway last night. In fact I was so confident, I set off really fast, determined to beat last weeks time.

Can you tell where this post is heading, friends..? That's right, straight to the injury couch.

I ignored the cramp I got 1/2 way round and have ended up pulling a muscle in my calf. I've never pulled a muscle before and it damn well hurts. I couldn't even finish the 5k and had to slink away, limping back to the car I struggled to drive home in.

I've even lost my sense of humour :o(

Oh dear! Rest, rest and more rest it seems. Not to worry though- you will be back on form soon xx

Ouch. I've blown a muscle in my leg on a couple of occasions (walking, not running) and I know how much that hurts. It's taken me about three days to a week to recover each time. Rest up.

You daft moo 😃 You won't ignore the next one and I find that the sense of humour returns pretty quickly. It's a lesson learned so don't beat yourself up. I'm still on the IC after nearly 3 weeks and at least another 2 to go. My charity run Is in ruins but hey ho. Thinking about doing a 24 mile walk next weekend instead 😀

Owww! Poor you! Try and get some quality time on the IC and you will be back on your feet before you know it.

It REALLY hurts 😢

I thought, when reading this, you were heading straight back to the bathroom when I saw you'd eaten a Chinese takeaway the night before a fast run 😷

Lots of ice and rest will work wonders. Then, a gentle return to running.

Injury yes... sense of humour loss....noooo!

Ouch Pam... poor you, and you were zooming away! :)

Now... is this just because you fancy the idea of that beautiful IC, you know that one with the red wine. the mags, the view and the foot up again?

Only joshing...:) You know the ropes.. get it rested and ice it as Irishprincess says...

When will we learn to listen to our bodies...? I know after the incident with my knee..I am a little over cautious... ! :)

Hope the pain starts to ease off a bit later, and you feel more like our Pam :)

Oh no, bad news!! Have you got a foam roller? If you have then you could try rolling the hell out of it. It'll hurt like the most hurtie thing you can imagine, but it may sort out out the problem, fingers crossed :)

Aww, thanks guys. I've taken myself back to bed with some ibuprofen, a brew and the crossword.

I'm still having a serious sense of humour failure, especially since I just checked the parkrun photos and I can tell I'm in pain just by looking at them. I should have stopped sooner :o(

Bummer! But remember most things can be cured by tea, chocolate homewheat and bedrest :)

Praise the lord for ibuprofen and cava, that's all I can say 🍸

Pam, how's the calf, hope it's mending, did you warm up nicely before the Parkrun?

in reply todavelinks

Thank you Dave, but it's not. I can't go to the gym, run, cycle... even walking on it is uncomfortable. I'm pretty flat about it :o(
