Is running on not much sleep a good idea?

Have had about 4 hours sleep and feeling nauseous this morning (IBS troubles due to lack of sleep). Bit worried about doing 2x 10 min runs this morning. Is it a good idea to even attempt it? Slightly worried about failure to complete it as I've been doing so well...

Shouldn't adversely affect you overmuch. Lots of people have sleepless nights before races. SupposeFly it is  how you slept the night before the night before you run that impacts more.

Besides, 4 hours isn't great but it's not terrible.

No sick note for you today. You are not excused running. Get out there and blow away the cobwebs.

I'd have a go, gently.  If you don't manage it then you have a good excuse, if you do manage it then you'll be really pleased with yourself :)

If I'm feeling grotty then I often feel better after a run :)

Start very slowly.

Good luck :)

Go for it...but slow and steady does it... Maybe you will feel a lot better afterwards :)

You should be fine, hardly slept the night before my first parkrun but it didn't seem to matter once I had got started and the feeling of achievement will make you feel better anyway.

Thanks all,  so glad there's a place I can come to with my worries and get some lovely encouragement! Was actually amazed the first 10 mins seemed like a breeze, the second 10 not so bad. I actually feel like I'm getting fit!  Could do with a nice nap though, shame I have to get to work!

When I'm lying awake during yet another sleepless night I often think I'm going to be too tired to run the next day, but when I actually do it I have noticed from my post run notes (yes, sad, I know), that I tend to have better runs after a bad night.  Human beings are weird, or maybe it's just me??!!

Really strange,  I was totally ready for failure but was actually the best run I've had so far. And I feel good from it too! Looking forward to a good sleep tonight!

Bebab     you might find yourself wanting more sleep now you're getting more exercise and fresh air.  Go to bed when you're tired. Don't sit up late watching telly, that doesn't make for a good night's sleep.

I hope your run went well!!!!!

Thanks,  I'm not a night owl (on a school night anyway!) and was actually in bed by 10! However couldn't get a rest after as had to get ready for work but will be enjoying my rest even more tonight :)

Yes, absolutely.  Have a relaxing evening and try and set yourself up for a good night's sleep.  I like to read in bed. I can guarantee I'm not reading long before I'm out for the count. Don't choose a page turner though!  LOL
