A good take on Fitness
That was really interesting ! Youre right , its not often discussed from that point of view .
What a lovely, genuine guy ...
Thanks Rig xxx
You don't! Very interesting comment on the focus of our society when essentially what he is saying is common sense. Quality of life in the final third of our life is so important. To be honest, I'm (hopefully) in the middle third of my life and I hope I'm investing now for an improved quality of life later on. Thinking about it. ... I'm getting an improved quality of life now!

Great video.Totally agree with that young man.I'm 66 and starting week 8 tomorrow, haven't run since childhood, but want to be as fit as possible at this age as independence and mobility are priority to me.
Powerful stuff really!!
That's why I run. I'm 50 and no bloke in his right mind is going to take a second look at me any more - I've reached 'invisible woman' age. But I want to be able to walk and move and go up and down stairs and get up and down off the loo and play with my grandchildren (skipping forward a bit there ... my lad is only 16!). I just don't want to kill myself through apathy.
Interesting, thanks for sharing that. As a 52 year old woman, I started moving more because I know I will be facing health issues if I remain inactive with a poor diet. I know lots of people older than me who have poor diet and even when told they risk diabetes, continue to refuse exercise. It is very sad indeed. Running is an amazing sport, socially, promoting good physical and mental health and great fun enabling us to explore the wonderful world we live in. Julie
We can all make changes in our lives ☺
I wish my 64yr old 'pre diabetic', on medication just in case, mum would take note! Thanks for sharing
It really is an eye-opener to reaise that advancing age does not have to mean a corresponding decline in mobility. One of the biggest things that starts us on the road to poor mobility is not sitting on the floor. As kids we sit on the floor, and more improtantly get up and down off the floor all the time. it s one of the most natural of all movements. As adults we do it much less if at all. How easily can you get up of the floor? How many points of contact do you need? One hand, both jands, both hands and knees? and its a thing that is easily remedied, simply by... sitting on the floor sometimes.
oooh - what a great idea. I love sitting on the floor and used to do it all the time to watch tv or whatever. Sounds like a good reason to go back to it !
I shared on FB. I've always done something to keep fit, it's good to mix it up. I don't do it just for my older years, it makes a difference now too!
Great video, thanks for sharing. I've had two kids and a craniotomy in the last six years. My poor body and mind were left so weak after all of it. Seeking fitness has been my way back to strength in every sense. Hurrah!
He's so right: fitness seems to be aimed at the youngsters and that's part of the reason I find running shops intimidating because most of the kit is designed for slim young bodies. i could get stuff to fit but it's not designed for a lumpy 63 year old body. When I try to buy tennis stuff it's all so unflatteringly short I'm still wearing the kit I bought ten years ago. When I lift my arms to serve I show my operation scar!!! Lovely for my opponent!
Fitness seems to ignore older people or patronisingly show very unfit aged persons raising their arms, as if they are typical of all we are capable of. There are hundreds on this forum alone who are not catered for in terms of dress! Lots of advice on line for fitness doesn't show the middle aged. I look at some of this stuff and think it's not for me.
He is so right that there is too much emphasis on fitness for vanity rather than fitness for enhanced quality of life. How many of us will be as mobile as David Attenborough at nearly 90? I'm sure we will be (if we're spared!) because we care about fitness. But how many more people do we see in their eighties who are barely mobile because they neglected their fitness and mobility? It is an important message he is sending out.
And with that, I shall go and put on my kit and have the lovely Laura bully me into running properly!!
