Very very interesting edition of the Food Programme on BBC Radio4 just now about food, sports nutrition and how it effects running. It'll be on iPlayer a radio in a while and its well worth a listen. Discussion about the merits and otherwise of high carb vs high fat vs vegan and vegetarian diets and their effects on pace and endurance. There'll be a follow up programme next month after some of the diets have been put to the test. Interesting stuff!

Thanks for that information! Anything that helps the running....I am finding the glass of champagne every day, ( latest scientific research), really helpful for warding of the senior moments too!!! :)

Thanks for the heads up - I'll def take a listen to that one. As Oldfloss says anything that helps the running is worth listening to. :-)

Ooo - sounds like that might be an interesting comparison against the book I got for Christmas. "Eat and run" is by the ultra runner Scott Jurek who advocates a totally 'animal free' diet. I've got some great recipes out of it so far. I think I will try to reduce my meat intake but I can't imagine ever going without bacon, eggs and lamb! I'm definitely going to try replacing mince with bulgur wheat.

Scott Jurek got more than a passing mention, Goonkeepgoing. In fact I believe he was interviewed, at least I think it was him -I answered the phone at one point and missed the name of the man being interviewed. Personally, I'd turn veggie tomorrow but hubby and daughter no2 are confirmed carnivores. Can't imagine being vegan though -I like cheese too much!!

If you listen to this, stop your iPlayer at minute 25; the weather forecast follows and it is not good news...

Thanks for posting the link. I just had a listen. Not sure what to take from it other than to be pleased I'm not eating the Kenyan diet! Gotta love Brendan Foster though ☺

I've just listened to the program. Thanks so much for posting this---I found it really interesting.

I have been a vegetarian for about 40 odd years but I have ate plenty of junk in my time. However lately and mostly because of the couch to 5k have started eating a really healthy diet.

It will be really interesting to hear the second part of the program for the results of the various diets.

take care
