Complete fail this week, could face running in the dark and now I have a nuro-virus.

Any tips for motivating myself to run in the dark or do I just take myself to the gym and treadmill?

If you are going to run in the dark, invest in a good head torch, Petzi Neo and hi viz clothing and keep safe, otherwise just run.

Run in the daytime? If you can't do that due to work commitments then yes it's the treadmill like some others do on here, or as the previous poster has said. The F word is a big nono on here... You must find a way! Good luck!😉

Neuro-virus or norovirus? Either way I don't think I'd be running!

Noro, I didn't have it at beginning of the week. Started yesterday in the middle of teaching year 8s yuk.

I am finding it hard to get motivated to run in dark the main issue is I have to leave in dark and get back when it's dark.

Can you run with others, does your gym have a running group? I ran in dark for first time in a group and felt safe but couldn't face it on my own and wore flashing armbands, £5 off Amazon. Hi viz clothes too. If you like treadmill go for it, whatever works for your routine. Hope you feel better soon, maybe rest until virus has gone and you feel strong again.

You poor love thats really grim....

If you enjoy the gym then go for it, BUT if you love being outdoors then I suggest getting a head torch, high vis kit ( cheap from Lidl etc) and go for an adventure.... I have grown to like it but I do shorter runs in the dark and save the longer ones for the weekend when i can go out in daylight!!

Most of us run in the dark I'd say! You you make yourself visible! Running torch or LED brimmed running cap, reflective arm bands, etc etc. See and be seen. You have to watch dips in the pavement etc as a long drop can give you such a jolt. Ouch! I take a small hand torch but I hope Santa will bring me a new head torch

Like the others have said - run on the treadmill, run in the dark, run at the weekends. Do whatever works for you, but keep running!

It is hard to get motivated in the Autumn and Winter but it's equally important. Do you have a friend who could run with you? I run weekly with my cousin because it's dark before she gets her kids to bed and she didn't want to go out alone in the winter. You can always mix and match some runs on the dreadmill and some with friends or a running group.

Good luck - keep it going!

hi-vis for daytime; reflective strips and leds for night; or both for both. Head torches are great for being seen and seeing other runners and animals. It's scary running round the lake and looking left or right only to be confronted with glowing eyes in the bushes :) Hope it's cats and foxes and not zombies!

Surprised you can even come on here if you have Noro. I have had it twice and couldn't even be bothered to answer my phone for first 2 days running would be the last thing I would be thinking about ! Running in the dark probably depends on where you live. I live on a nice quiet Island and never mind the dark though it's harder to see the puddles ;) Hope you feel better soon and it didn't spread to the year 8's ! :)
