Good for you, be steady though, sometimes our brain has more confidence than our legs can muster. However, when we really feel good, sometimes just need to go with it, fantastic achievement 😊
I'm sure you know that you're pushing the envelope, but an additional 9 minutes is unlikely to spell disaster. At least as long as it's only the odd occasion.
Well done Richard. I think what you did was fine, as long as you felt good during and after. The first time I ran 10k I hadn't intended to; I was attempting to reach 8k. When I got there I still felt good, so I carried on, just like you.
There is a recommendation that you do not increase your weekly mileage by more than 10%. This is normally added to one long run per week. It is of course only a guide but can help you to not get too carried away and helps to minimise the injury risks.
You sound as if you are only too aware of those injury risks and will take it steady. There is nothing like a bit of enthusiasm and we are all capable of much more than we believe, but it is certainly safer to take the slow progress route. keep it up and you will be at 10k in no time at all.
Carpe diem and all that. It sounds like you saw your moment and grabbed it with both hands ( Or feet!) Yes, indeed I think you did the right thing, just as long as you don't expect to do it every time, which you clearly don't. Congrats on a great time, very well done xx
