Not been a good couple of days. Yesterday I was due to do W4R3 but overslept so not enough time for run and recovery before work. Today I set my alarm and was up in time. I decided rather than use the gym treadmill I would run by the canal as it was a cool quiet morning.
I got about half way and was exhausted so stopped. I find outside hard as I struggle to regulate my pace. In the gym I choose a setting and off I go.
I've decided to leave outside running for a while and concentrate instead on stamina. I will repeat week four starting from Sunday and hopefully then progress.

Running outside and the gym is so different. I love outside, i use the treadmill when i have to but i find it very hard to run on.
What you have to tell yourself when you run outside is go slowly, then slow down some more, slow down again and for good measure go even slower. Once you have done this you will find running outside better. Running outside is great so don't let this attempt put you off, maybe try again but very very slowly. Even if you think your going slow your probably not going slow enough.
Don't forget its not failed, look at as your first trial run outside.
It's not so much a failed attempt as slower than desired progress. I'm one of those who would vote in favour of you doing the week over again instead of just struggling harder against bigger obstacles. If you're running out of puff, you just need to build a bit more capacity. Don't worry, you'll make it out of there some day. (Says he who stayed parked in Week 5 for several epochs). You might have to nudge your setting in the gym up (very, very slightly) just to boost the effort required up a fraction. Outside, just start by overestimating how slow you're going to need to go to pace yourself. Deliberately go at a pace you know is a bit on the slow side to begin with, and don't hurry to move on from it. One day your legs are just going to start moving it on on their own accord, and you'll find the slow start doesn't slow you down too much overall.
You got fitter today, anyway, didn't you?
Hi K, no worries if you have to repeat a run. Years ago I tried running on a treadmill in the gym - when I tried to run outside, I just couldn't do it, seemed so much harder. When I took up c25k 7 weeks ago, I was determined to do it outside straight away, as I knew with past experience if I started on a treadmill I would find it hard to adjust to running outside.
Out of the 2 experiences I definitely prefer running outside - new routes to try, a change of scene, lovely sunsets etc, so please don't let this failed attempt put you off. Good luck
Sorry to hear that you've had a tough one. Just repeat the run when you can and you'll be back on track. These things happen but the important thing is that you went out and gave it a go
EVERYONE has a tough run.. sometimes you get through it, sometimes you dont
sometimes you get a GOOD run.. part ( to me at least) of the experience of getting THROUGH c25k is recognising it, dealing with it, and getting back out there again..
You can and will do it next time i am sure.. and then we will look forward to your post of I DIIIIDDD ITTTTTT !!!!!!!
I take my hat off to anyone who can last more than 10mins on a treadmill lol! It's SO boring! I guess we're all different but I love being outside regardless of the weather - makes me feel alive!
I have decided to carry on my C25K training on a treadmill. Your much further along than I am, but try and look at it as not so much a failure, rather than a learning curve. We are finding a way to succeed with our running. Failure is stopping our running all together.
