Have not been able to run for about nearly 3 months due to chest infection and back injury. I find myself almost scared to get out there again. Scared of the out of breath panic. I keep telling myself to get out there but I just can't get the gear on and get out.

Absence
You've done it before and you can do it again.
I know that fear of agrivating an injury can be a show stopper (one of the reasons I waited so long to get started), but just take it nice and slowly and listen to Laura's calming, reassuring voice and we will all be here to help you.
😀
Hello there
Well it just so happens that I've returned from injury this very day! So if I can, you can too. I am waiting for a physio appointment that seems to be taking forever to arrive.
I felt very apprehensive, as when you've been in such pain, you're scared to run in case you make things worse. If you're pain free or had the all-clear from the doc then you should be good to go
It felt weird getting my running gear on after so long. You might not even need running gear though as you won't be going far. You just start slow! I did five minute warm-up walk and then ran 1 minute just to see how I felt. I felt fine so did another four minutes before doing 5 minute cool down walk. It only took me 15 minutes from door to door so nothing difficult to do as I only went round the block. I timed myself to make sure I didn't overdo it
Try that, just something short and sweet. I did some stretches though and kept moving after that as I prepared the tea, which I think helped as it kept me moving a fair bit as I had to go into the garden to pick veg
Try and get out tomorrow and let me know how you got on. Don't put it off any longer. If I can, you can. Courage mon brave !
Will it not spur you on to run tomorrow day time? Come on! You can do this
Good.
I'll be having a rest day from running tomorrow but I have my neighbour's dog to walk and I'm going to do another session of my exercise DVD
Get your running gear out tonight before you go to bed and leave it ready for you tomorrow evening
Good luck!
I'm glad you're better! The run ill go fine - it's getting out of the door that's the hardest bit. I feel your pain - I've been feeling guilty and frustrated as I haven't been for a run for ten days now due to the heat. I'm forcing myself out tomorrow too, even though it'll have to be along the road (which I hate). I'll be sending you positive vibes - will you do the same for me?
Aw hello and come on, you can do this! You know you want to I was out for 5 weeks which did my head in. Going back out is hard but it's not as hard as the very first week 1 run 1, which you've already done. Good advice already on here. Get your stuff ready for when you're back from work, do all the things you usually do pre-run, do a very gentle walk / run, the post on here for hurrahs and the next step!!! Good luck
I'm sorry to hear this - but you can do it. Like everyone has said, set your kit out ready, know where you are going to go (don't leave your route to chance), write your success post in your head, and go! Plan a very short run, with a good warm-up walk. When you run, go slowly and only for a short time. Pay attention to how you are actually feeling - not how you think you might feel or should be feeling Why not try a 3-minute run, then a 2-minute walk, then if things went well, a 5-minute run. Then do your cool-down walk. Come home full of success, let us know how it went, and plan to go out again the day after tomorrow. You can do this!
It can be very daunting to go back to running after illness or an accident. I fell running in February and broke both of my arms - I put them out instinctively to break my fall and broke both radius heads. I was very nervous, but I am now back running with my neighbour. Every time my legs feel tired I get anxious that I might fall again, so I am taking it very easy and slowing down to walking or almost walking pace. My confidence is slowly coming back but it pays to be kind to yourself. Good luck!
Blimey ! That's sounds horrific Easy , that made me cringe when I read that . Massive respect to you for getting back out there again xxx
Aw Mature Lady, big hugs ((( )))) Can only echo what everyone else has said in trying to keep your breathing calm and take it slowly.
Good Luck and let us know how you go on . You can do this ! xxxx
Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you all giving me the boost. I have resigned myself to defo running tonight. Regardless of how little I run it will be more than sitting on my backside playing on my tablet. Watch this space!!!!
