Hi This is my grandson Brody who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2013 when he was 2 yrs old. Many of you will know I started running because of a promise I made to Brody in 2014. He is responding well to treatment but the side effects of the drugs are awful.
I am trying to raise £300 ( £100 for every year of Brody's treatment) Every £ I raise will help the NCCR to find cures and reduce side effects of the treatment for children's cancers.
I find fundraising difficult so thought I would try something different. I'm asking you to guess the time it will take me to run The Great North Run (13.1 miles ) on Sept 13th. Please choose a time between 2h 15m 00s and 2h 50m 00s.
If you live outside Edinburgh area I'll send you a pair of running socks if your guess is the closest. Or you can choose Massage / beauty treatment if you live in Edinburgh. So if you can spare a couple of £s I would be so grateful.
What a clever idea Rona, and an absolutely gorgeous picture of Brody - I will be back to sponsor you as ever, you do a great job raising funds for this worthwhile cause. Do I put my guess on this thread or on my donation comment on your fundraising page?
I am indeed Lovefood, I'm running for Alzheimer's Society who I volunteer with but haven't sorted my page yet. Once it's up I'll let you know - I'll post it on my facebook timeline. Thanks!
Will keep my eyes peeled for it. As for my 3 runs last week I need my hand slapping for not keeping the runs up, so glad I'm not doing it this year, I just feel wiped out by this house moving stuff and I'm not even half way through the process and I can't blame it on starting to pack boxes........my couch gremlin is coming out! Lets see if I can make it for a short one tomorrow after a house viewing (I got all excited i'd sold mine so things would be quieter and forgot i'd need to spend time looking at ones for us!)
Well Elaine ok sh. Doing all the runs supposed to but just feeling bit slow and not as fit as few months ago Kind of felt drained emotionally after cancer mini mile in May and started eating rubbish . Most of problem is in my head - keep thinking why am I doing this , Brody shouldn't have cancer ....... Anyway plodding on and just waiting for it all to click into place. I can do this
It's a huge challenge for anyone Rona, I think because half marathons have become so popular we've become a bit glib in our attitude towards them. The reality is both physically and mentally it is not easy to do, so kudos to you for taking on that challenge - yes, you can do this, just keep repeating, doesn't matter how long it takes you. It really is a fab atmosphere, the crowds will be with you all the way.
It is really unfair and rotten that kids have to cope with cancer, you and your family have been doing a great job raising funds and awareness - it will make a difference to others. x
I never had planned to do it Goonkeepgoing. Brody's dad just happened to say there was a charity place in the team and why didn't do it . Many thanks for sponsoring me
