It is difficult. This week I've been out running shortly after 6 in the morning to avoid the heat, but even then it's warm and the runs are noticably harder.

I didn't think I could run in the mornings either, but it was either that or kissing goodbye to my runs until mid September... So I was up at 6.30 this morning for the third time since the weather changed, and guess what? The world's a whole new, bright place to discover if you force yourself out of your jimmies and into your trainers. No regrets, I promise! Go on,try it out! You can't say no until you've given it a go.

not jimmies. JAMMIES. or Jimmy jammies. Sorry, just saw that you leave for work at 6.30 (must be the heat...). Your only option is getting up even earlier, or running late in the evening when the heat goes down. Or pay for an air-conditioned gym room and a treadmill (yawn).

I would have to run at 5am ......and as a lone female wouldn't really feel safe.....so will have to wait till it cools a bit ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

You could hit the treadmill when it's hot. Or just go out for a run but realize it might be a shorter run-walk, which will still do you a world of good, and you can finish the program runs on the next cool day. Don't let the weather defeat you, just be kind to yourself for getting out the door and doing something.

I ran on Tuesday after work. 25deg C. Very hard going, but I viewed it as a running time not a running distance challenge. So was slow, but steady.

My preparation was :

Very loose clothes

Water

Flat course

Lots of trees for shade.

Sun block

Small damp facecloth in my belt to help try and keep my face cool

And this may be weird, but peppermint oil mixed with water. Dab it on your skin, keeps you cool(ish)

Don't beat yourself up if you feel that running in heat is not for you. try a treadmill indoors.

Oh Dawn I feel for you! I am lucky that I run on the weekend or the days I work from home (on the other days I leave home at 5.30!!). I have to say the earlier I go out for a run the better - cooler, less traffic, fewer people around - but it's pretty rural here and frankly I feel safer earlier on! It is sure to cool down soon, but as I need to prepare for a possible run in the heat with my Race for Life, I am going to try a couple of later, hotter runs before then, using tips I have found on here:

Plenty of water before and after

Go out in wet clothes and hair!

Take it easy

And I am taking a facial spray with me to cool me down if I need it!

I am truly awful in the heat, but I need to conquer it somehow! Not tomorrow though, am heading out at 5.45 for w9r2!!

Don't be too hard on yourself, do your next runs when you can and when you feel ready!! Xxx

Good luck tomorrow Sandi......hopefully I will be doing r2 tomorrow as it says it's going to be cooler......I'm a chicken and where I run wouldn't like to go early....I like people around ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰ they are good tips for running in the heat......xx

You can run late evening. Great time. It will be cooler than the heat of the day at least.

If you can convince yourself to run at 5 or so, you may find you will love it. Just give it a try. Who knows, it may surprise you. The air is fresh, there is peace and quiet. It is wonderful.

I'm having the same problem, I've not been for a run for 2 weeks because of the heat. I cant run in a morning as my husband leaves for work at 5am and I've got my 2 year old at home during the day. I'm worried about losing my fitness.

I like to run late evening. You can get your husband to babysit. Your baby will probably be in bed later on anyway. Where there's a will .....

I'm not running in the heat either. But I cycle in the evening instead. I am a morning person where running is concerned as I cannot run after a meal, but cycling is different. Beside that way, I avoid hoards of mosquitoes.

But back to normal next week as the weather will revert to normal... in Sweden at least.

Happy running everyone.
