So I've just finished week 6 - and am contemplating signing up to a 10k at the end of October - do you think that's enough time? And what are the best podcast options after the lovely Laura (I'm going to miss her terribly!)

Eminently do-able. I was on week 6 at the beginning of March, and did a 10k race the weekend before last, on 21st June, less than 4 months later. The end of October is 4 months away. I ran 10k for the first time in early April. Personally, I never really got into podcasts after finishing the journey with Laura, but that's up to the individual.

Yes, it should be doable.

It's probably a good idea to do a month of just doing 5ks three times a week to get used to 5ks first. Then look for a training plan for 10k, there are loads of free plans on the net.

Most seem to say to do 1 "long" run each week, 1 a variety of intervals/tempo/hills/fartleks etc, and 1 or 2 easy 5ks (parkrun is ideal). The long run should start at 5k and get a bit longer each week (by about 10%). If you have any time left just carry on getting used to running 10k once a week.

Yes as long as you continue running regularly, you should be fine. I haven't used the podcasts yet, but did 10k 8 weeks after finishing the programme. Just try and increase your distance slowly once a week and you will get there.

Just what these guys have said - at 10% per week it should take you around 8 weeks to get your long run up from 5K to 10K.

If you continue to run 3x per week, consolidate for a couple of weeks at 5k, then do 1 x intervals, 1 x gentle 5K and 1x long run pw with increasing distance then you will have around 3 weeks for setbacks or to consolidate your 10k before the race.

That's 3 more weeks of the podcasts, 2 to solidify 5k and 8 for increasing distance, gives 13 weeks of the 16 or so that you have. Entirely doable.

Good luck - it will seem like a long way off but the achievement will be all the more worth it when you get there.

That should be enough time to get to 10k. There are quite a lot of options out there if you need instruction, I have used Jeff Galloway's easy 10k which worked well, but there are lots of others. Can't fault your ambition !! Well done.

I too got the bug and signed up for a 10k about 3 weeks ago.

It's in September and I finished the c25k yesterday.

If you sign up your mentally saying you can and that's half the battle!
