Well had to get up at 6am to get an 8am train to London, sat down and the lady opposite turned out to also be doing the run, so we buddied up me and Suzanne and made the trip to Green Park, got there very early 9am, race wasn't till 10am.
The weather was lovely, really warm and sunny so we positioned ourselves on the deck chairs in Green Park watching the entertainment on the big stage and big screen. 9.45 dropped our bags at the bag check, these things are so well organised, we mooches to the Mall with a quick visit to the portaloos, lots of them.
The whole park was divided into various wellness zones, Body, Mind and stuff as sponsored by BUPA, there was a huge picnic area a yoga and Pilates area, hammocks and sofas!
It was a great event that was very family-orientated, lots of kids with there parents the youngest was a three year old girl. We made our way to the start, did manage to spot the back of Steve Cram having his photo taken, then by 10.15 we were off, I told Suzie not to wait for me, so off she went and I got into my regular jogging pace, no speed merchant.
I was taking in all the sights, like horse guards parade and all the various monuments, running comfortably. Well as it was only a mile it didn't take that long. My new Garmin said 11.20, which is roughly what I expected, I think I will try and log on to the site tomorrow to get my official chipped time first time I've worn one of those.
Met up with Suzie and went to collect our baggage, took more photos, collected our goody bags and medal, then went back into the park for half an hour then headed home. Got back at 1pm.
Really enjoyed it, will definitely do it again next year although the medal will be different as this one commemorated Steve Crams 30th anniversary record. I know that Rob and his Westie also did I it, but he would have been much quicker after doing the Hackney Half-Marathon, but I hope he enjoyed it too.
This is the lovely bit of bling a lush medal, bit incompetent when uploaded images on this I-pad so will have do separate posts for the reverse.
