Been away for a prolonger rest on the injury couch (damaged ankle and then a wonderful crop of verrucas on the ball of my foot), and I have decided to start from scratch. I'm now at W2R2 and it is great. No self-imposed pressure to go for a certain distance of prolonged time, just a gentle trot whilst I admire the emerging buds and tumbling river as dippers dance and a distant cuckoo calls...all in all, not a bad start to the day.
If anyone ever has a prolonged break, do yourself a favour and start at W1R1 again; it is a very refreshing experience.
Oh, one last thing; do I get a second Grad badge when I finish?
I just started Week 7 today and enjoyed about half of it; the second half was completed with sheer bloody-mindedness (which I like to describe as 'tenacity' on my CV ) Having said that, the fact I actually ENJOYED twelve and a half minutes of solid running is a complete miracle
Welcome back Mr S! Sounds like you are rediscovering the love. I'll be interested to see how tough/ easy you find doing the programme a second time around.
How did you manage to get rid of the verrucas? My son has a similar crop, hard to know if they really bother him as he has unusual responses to things and a weird gait. The podiatrists said duct tape is the way to go but it won't stay on.
Lovely to hear you are enjoying a second go round. For all C25Ks satisfactions, I often feel that one of the things that motivates me to keep running is never wanting to do Week 1 again, but perhaps I needn't worry should I ever have an unavoidable break.
It took ages to get rid of them. I tried all sorts of old-wives-tales remedies before trying Salicyic acid. Just follow the instructions and wait for the inevitable pain as they are burned-out. OK, discomfort may be more accurate. Eventually the dead skin starts to peel away and with any luck it will have killed the verrucas. Mine seem to have gone 3rd time round.
Salicyclic acid is available on Amazon or from chemists. BUT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.
I've always suggested Tincture of Time since your own immune system is supposed to sort them eventually, unless they are uncomfortable but we are talking years now.
I should have known that Sallycycle would like salicylic acid though! Useful to know it worked for you... how many frogs did you apply before you tried it?
Daughter had a crop of verrucas for years, despite my best efforts, then suddenly they all disappeared at once- literally over the course of about 2weeks, without any treatment. Her immune system just got the better of them I guess.
After trying loads of things with my son's verrucas the thing that finally worked was 2 weeks of twice daily antibacterial hand gel (like they use in hospitals). This drew the dark core to the surface. We followed this with duct tape with daily removal / filing for about 5 days. It literally just dropped out on the fifth day leaving a big hole in his foot that slowly 'grew out' over a month!!!!
I'd heard about this but couldn't find specific enough information. My son has sensory issues so I am a bit twitchy about salicylic acid. Not sure he'll hack the filing bit either but we'll try this first.
Hi, if your son has sensory issues, I would urge you to discuss the use of salicylic acid with either your doctor, practice nurse or pharmacist BEFORE using it. It can be quite uncomfortable.
There are masses of tips out there for verrucas, and some will work on some people, and others not. One popular one seems to be sticking a clean needle into the culprit to try and stimulate the body's immune defence system into action. I assume that you are supposed to numb the are first with ice? Another is to deprive it of air by covering it with duct tape...and the list goes on...and on...and on...
You can get a chiropodist to freeze them too, but this is quite expensive and by all accounts, it hurts.
Good luck!
Hi
So far it is pretty easy, although this morning was tough; but not because of my lack of fitness, but the 50-60mph gusting wind. That was challenging, and I thought Izzie would be a grumpy dog, but no; she LOVED it!
Oh, yes. Izzie is 'bonkers' [vet's description] at the best of times; and my wife teaches 6/7 year olds, so knows all about wind and, strangely, moon moods.
So lovely to have you back SallyCycle. I'll be watching your progress with interest, because I'll be starting all over again myself once my ankle is healed. Enjoy getting reacquainted with Laura and don't forget to post any thought about what you're doing differently second time around. Good luck
Hooray, glad to see you back again! You should definitely get another grad badge when you finish but meanwhile, enjoy the programme even more this time round!
Hi Sallycycle, I am starting back too. I had a spell of really bad flu, stress, depression, house moving, job-hunting, house hunting, and somewhere along the way I lost my mojo. Am back now trying to regain health and stamina. Good luck and hopefully we'll be back in no time
