well the weather seems to be as changeable as ever. I went out yesterday and realised I have a favorite run weather. It's about 11 - 14 degrees and I am just so co for table with that temperature. Happy running to everyone.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.
Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

A bit of a mixed bunch last week. The beginning of the week was dire, two runs went very badly. Then yesterday I had a great run. I realised I was getting a bit caught up In training and all my brain wanted to do was go for a fun run. I had told myself after the event. I set off yesterday and decided why did I have to wait for something I really wanted, a run is a run is a run sort of thing. So off I went. I had my watch on for run/walk but I wasent allowed to look at any other stats. I weaved around the roads as I saw fit changing my route when I felt like it. I had my fav songs in my ear and mimed all the way. I danced and sang and I relaxed and had a great time. The end outcome. 11.72km normal pace and happy that that was my last long run before taper. As they say always finish on a good note.
My week was very much "I'm off the couch" It is surprisingly tough to make sure I have a run or a walk every day and this week I have experienced the pleasures of both. Walking has the merits of not needing any special clothes or footwear. Says she who started running in walking boots and ordinary clothes... and who rubbed a heel raw and bloody when a pair of socks fell down inside my everyday boots on a walk. You can also do it much sooner after eating.
This week I have done quite a bit of going out after my evening meal (normally I am straight to bed) and I've had some lovely walks, around town or along the canal in the evening sunshine or the fading light. I only managed one run, but kept going to 5k and really enjoyed it, especially seeing a fox.
Morning All, had a pretty good week this week. Really really struggled to do 4.5k last Monday - hangover and dehydration the main suspects. Went to jog scotland group on Wednesday and had loads of fun doing short sharp bursts of running and running around cones etc. Friday's run was along the park run route and I did it in just over 33 minutes which is the fastest I've run 5k in over a year! Finally longer slow run yesterday - did 8k and took almost an hour. Enjoyed it but was a bit stiff in the hips for the rest of the day - despite lots of stretching etc etc. Okay today though
Just shows how different we all are Beth . We did exactly same training as you on wed and I really didn't enjoy it . I understand it's good training but hate quick short bursts of speed - much rather long slow run . Great 5k time Hope to see you wed night.
Planning on being there Rona. I only like the bursts of speed cos I wasn't racing anyone plus we got lots of rests in between as John was in chatty mode
Had a bit of a rubbish week in fairness on the running front - did a good 5k PB on the Monday and 7k at a decent pace on the Saturday. Didn't manage to squeeze a run in midweek unfortunately.
10k race is 4 weeks today! Aiming to get that 70min time down to 65 by then. Another 7k is the plan tonight. All about the pacing I guess! Got to get out of the mindset that I have to PB every run I do.
This week has not been a good week for my quest. Last monday I pulled a muscle in my back and found walking painful, so did not do my normal runs on tuesday or thursday. I eventually felt able to go running on saturday, whilst I was away in london with my husband and was pleased to manage 4.1k running. This was not my planned 6k on my way up to 10k, but I was just so pleased to be able to run again! This week I am hoping to be back on plan with a stamina podcast, speed podcast and then 6k run. Tonight I am also playing netball with some friends - the first time I have played in about 20 years and am hoping that my running will have improved my fitness for thi sort of activity. Now I just need to remember the rules of netball!
I have not run apart from last Monday because of an awful bug disguised as a cold. What sort of cold floors you and makes you just want to sleep all day for nearly a week? But it was no more than that, no temperature, no fever, and luckily this time no cough. But I am very stiff now, so been trying to do some stretches and still taking it easy to fully recover. I have been very firmly on the couch, doing minimal home-freelancing, in fact did not go out at all between Mon-Sat
Last Monday I ran intervals (60 seconds, fairly fast). I wanted to do this once more, then try and run for 3.5km at a medium pace, to try and get my rhythm back after overstretching to 5k. I think I'll try my second intervals run this Thursday then take Saturday as my 3.5k run day, taking both quite gently.
Friday - 5 miles, nice and steady, burn the week off
Sunday - 10 miles with hills, getting ready for 13.1 of the same at the end of May.
The Reality:-
Tuesday - gorgeous 2 miles in the warm dusk, wanting to run forever, not wanting to sprint up the same bit of boring pavement until I feel sick. Doing it anyway. Waking up the next day with a whingeing muscle in my hip. Sulking.
Friday - 5 miles, lovely lovely lovely, I love running, I love everything, I'm going to steal this lady's lovely dog and run with him, oh look! Lambs! Everything's in bloom! My tomato seedlings are growing! This is great! Etc etc.
Sunday - go to bed at 2am. Spend whole day in grip of rotten hangover which I can't find the balls to run off.
And have spent today feeling chesty and virussy, so no long run today either - in bed with lemsip.
Ah bless. Friday sounded excellent (but don't do Tuesday again). At least you got some good drinking work in before getting knocked down with your flu-bug. Hope you're on the mend soon and able to complete your week's running
Bit of mixed week for me too. Runs this week shorter and slower than normal. Body felt heavy after 10 mile race last sun -- could also be because havnt stopped eaten all week !! Anyway decided just to go with the flow this week and take it bit easier. Drill training with jog scotland - not my favourite but know it's good for me. Bumped into lizziebeth 57 on my 45 min slow run on sat so that was nice. And yesterday did Helix junior park run with 5yr old Alex one of my grandsons. That is really great fun seeing 100 children aged 4-14 running often with mums and dads. Highly recommend. Also acts as speed training for me as I just run beside Alex and let him set pace so we running along and suddenly he just takes off for short time. Loved it yesterday when he said to me ' grandma it's not a race but a run so doesn't matter who comes in first or last ' Didn't realise how much I must have said that to him in previous runs
Have good week everyone whether in be in snow or sun or both on same day
A good week for me - I ran on Tues, Thurs, Sat and Sunday and fitted in some strength training on Monday and Wednesday. My legs seem to be getting used to the strength exercises now (which probably means its time to up the reps π’- sigh). I also did the hill training session with my running group on Saturday, which was surprisingly quite good fun! I normally dread hills.
I managed a swim, adding a few extra lengths, and I ran The Hill again, which was good (although I seem to have been slightly slower ), and then I did just over 7.5k on Sunday. I'm off down to London this weekend so will be packing my kit for some running tourism - yay! So all in all, a good week Happy running, fellow Questers, and a swift recovery to those on the IC.
I've had a good week. Am on holiday but still managed my 3 runs as per MyAsics plan, 2 X 10K's (supposed to be fast but couldn't in the heat) and a slow 5K (managed that one).
I'm feeling very virtuous. Even managed two lots of weights in the hotel gym! But I have eaten like a horse the whole week.
Back home today and then I can get those fast ones done in the cooler weather.
I had a good week. I got my 3 runs in, one the 7 K that I missed out on last week. I ached a bit after that, my longest run so far, but was OK by the next day. Also my mother had her 90th birthday and we got a new grandson! πππΌππ
I've still not been able to run at all because of injury I'm afraid It's been weeks now and is very disappointing!
I would like to be in the quest. I would like to run 3 x per week slowly increasing my run times each week. I'm aiming to run for an hour in 6 weeks! Is that it? Am I in??
The roads are now free of ice and I have restarted running 3 times a weeks.
I can still run 5k, but the recovery time is a bit longer than last year, so my goal for this quest is running 5k once a week, and another 5k split between my other 2 runs, taking my weekly total to 10k. Thank you.
