Bank holiday for some today, are you planning on your runs today or spending quality time with friends and family. I prised myself out of bed early today so I could do both. Long run and a meal out for lunch. I am looking forward to my well earned calories that someone else is cooking.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.
Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

Ups and downs again for me. I had The run of my life last week. I knocked a whole 5 min of my 7km time. It felt so good to get back to that distance, it has to be my favourite. Then on to this morning and a rubbish run. Back to normal pace but I struggled through the whole thing. Not helped by the fact in the last two weeks I have had a 2lb weight gain out of the blue. I have been so steady for months. Anyway by the time I post next week I should of completed my HM. I am resorting to fingers crossed and having a conversation on Twitter with someone who is marshalling the back of the race asking them not to open the roads untill I have finished. happy running.
Good luck RFC... whilst I have yet to feel even tempted to participate in a mass event, I certainly feel that more people whose focus is on turning up and finishing will do wonders for spreading the benefits of running. I hope you have a great time (as in enjoying yourself!)
I am afraid to say (no I'm not really) that the weight gain was from me as I lost about that. Not entirely out of the blue but more successful an effort than of late for no reason I can fathom
Hello there lovely people. I've been running 4 - 5 times a week, which includes a weekly run with a lady in my office and a fortnightly run with another chap. In addition I've started long runs, looking to build my distances. I did a 5 mile run last weekend but have had a lazy bank holiday weekend so far. I'm driving back up to Reading shortly, so that I can run the 3 miles to a village fete and help my brownies raise some money. I'm then planning to run the three miles back. Wish me luck!
Broke 70 mins for 10k during the week but not run since. Stress of finding a new flat and other work related things is taking over and stopping me getting outside! going out this morning and will just forget this week gone and not let it get me down. Grr.
Amazing what a challenge this Quest is proving to be! All I committed to was a daily walk or run. I did one run at the beginning of the week, distinctly leaden, but still lovely to get out in a light evening. Otherwise it has all been short evening walks, especially now I have developed what is for me a rare actual cold/cough. My head would love me to get out for a run but my chest disagrees.
I don't need to go to one of my walking places though... one of our cats who went missing nearly a year ago has been found! I used to keep taking a turn round her known haunts with no luck, but she was clipped by a car somewhere else and taken to the vet who reunited us via her microchip. Fortunately she is making a good recovery from her injuries. Microchip your pets folks! (A legal requirement for dogs from next year in the UK)
I have been running 4 times a week and increasing the long run by approx 10%. Ran a total of 30 K last week and my long run this morning was 14.6 Km. Parkrun every week and time was 27:33 this week.
I did my three runs this week, one of 4.5k, one speed podcast and then a 5.6k. Did not feel quite ready for the 6k loop this week as I am only just back from pulling a muscle in my back. I did however go to netball and survived! I've realised that I am not going to be able to increase my distance by the 3k I planned over this quest, but I plan to increase it as far as possible. This week I am going to do the stamina podcast tomorrow, speed podcast on thursday, and then on sunday I have a fun run around our village of 3 miles, which means I won't be extending my distance this weekend, but I am looking forward to it.
Didn't report last week - kept meaning to, but just never got there.
Mixed fortnight. First week only one run 6k, work got in the way! Lots of walking though, so met and well exceeded my 10,000 steps every day. Also volunteered at the first of my new local parkrun, after many weeks of trials. Started with a bang, not good, and not a story for open forums Onward and upward.
Second week much better, 5k in 30:11 (curse those 11 secs) then Saturday did a Blacklight Run. Happy that my Runmeter showed 31:38 as there were a lot of people - less impressed that it said 4.2km not 5. Never mind - crossed a colour run off the to do list.
This week has started well - will try to remember to report that next week.
Meanwhile good luck to everyone this week, especially rfc.
I'm still following MyAsics plan and did the three required runs. Two fast 10K's and a slow 5K. The first 10K was good and the one yesterday was terrible. Felt really slow and laboured. No idea why.
I have a race next Sunday and this is my tapering week (didn't know what this meant before running) and I'm not drinking any alcohol this week in preparation but I really want to try for a good speed (for me).
Good luck to all of you with races this week and happy running to everyone else.
You'll do fine RFC. I have every confidence in you. You have done the training, you will look after yourself this week and do your best this weekend
I'm in action too!!!!! I shall think of you and Alliboo (who is doing the walk with her family) I have a 10 k so nothing as challenging as you two
I did nearly 43 kms of running last week but hurt my stupid knee. I'm managing to keep my weight stable but hope to lose a pound by this weekend as I always go quicker if I drop a pound.
I have done my 3 runs this week but done something to my knee. I think its with running along the uneven ground on the canal bank. I have not run there since last summer. So I might need to sit on the IC for a week to let my poor aching joint recover.
Chesty cough and no running for me. 😓. Need to get back to it but can't seem to find the energy.
No running again for me due to injury, but I think I'll be able to try a short run this week hopefully. Feeling much better. My new mission for the quest is just to run once! Best of luck for your HM, RFC!

Good luck for your one run GLudwig hope you're nearly recovered by now. I'm also a bit out of things, but for slightly less valid reasons... really want to get back into the running mode
• in reply to
What's been the trouble? Just got out of routine? I'm hoping I can get back into it over the next week. I'll report back!
• in reply to
Lack of motivation following that break due to the bad cold, complicated by being in catch up mode working loads of hours etc plus two job interviews. I could probably list a few more excuses too but basically need to re-boot my routine! Will also report back. Good luck and take care

Ok, we'll get back into routine together! Good luck to you! I'm not sure quite what to do, as it feels like such a long break. Might go back to Laura for a bit and start with some shorter runs to test out the leg. I'm intending to give it a go by the end of this week..
Felt bit sluggish and heavy this week on runs. Possibly after effects of 10 mile race but more probably cos been eating too much and too much of wrong food. Had to do long run on sat by myself and was quite nervous. Never ran for 2 hrs by myself so opted for Arthur seat twice with loop round duddinston loch . So fair mixture of hills and flat with option of returning to car if too much. Anyway first 2o mins felt hard slog as usual, bit in middle ok ish and loved last 3 miles. so pleased with that Enjoyed session with jog scotland as beginners and intermediate came together so nice to chat to new faces.
I'm being a bit derailed by an upcoming trip, with too much work to do in preparation so the swimming is just not happening. I've still run, though, with a run round London Zoo and an 8k run when I got back home. I'll try and get another run or so in this week before I go, and I will take my it with me!
Good luck to those of you who have events coming up - I'll have my fingers crossed for you and there will be a celebration on here afterwards
Derailed is a good word, Anniemurph, but maybe it's been a different sort of derailment for me... After being knocked for six by a cold week before last, I was then derailed by a number of things last week, when I should have been getting back to my running routines. I had 2 job interviews and a deluge of freelance work (waking up to emails telling me my assigned workload for the day!) plus up to my neck in college work that I'm not getting done (again a million emails every day - no exaggeration).
I did finally go out yesterday, but again just did intervals, in my current bid to improve my running pace. I also went out on my bike in gale-force winds. Feeling very unfit. Considering trying to do a long-ish run again tomorrow, around 3.5-4k, see how I get on, as I'm finding intervals a bit boring really! I need some kind of a feeling of epiphany - I can do this! - kind of thing. I also want to do the running without headphones, feeling like I'm part of the world, hearing the lovely swans, coots, moorhens etc as well as seeing them. I'll let you guys know if I manage it
On the sunday I went out and did a gentle 3km giving run/walk a try. Foot felt OK but it was also enough.
On Thursday evening I flew to Tunisia to spend the long weekend with my daughter. Central Tunis is not a good place to run, but we spent the weekend at the beach, so Saturday morning I put my shoes on and went for a run on the beach. The tide was just on the turn, so I ran at the top of the high-tide mark which was fun. Again, just 3k and very slowly, but it felt good. (As did the picnic breakfast on the beach when I got back).
Got home Tuesday night and managed out again Wednesday afternoon for another 3k.
So far so good with the foot pain, so Saturday I'm planning to give 5k a go and see how I get on.
Travelling again next week but will take my running stuff and see if time permits.
