You got out there and did the complete run 1. You have still covered more distance than sitting on the sofa. Put it behind you. Have your rest day and go slowly slowly and slower on the next one. DON'T GIVE UP. You can do it. You will soon be amazed at what you can do. Trust Laura. Good luck.

Thanks for your encouragement, I will

Not give up. Can't believe all the great replies I've got - fantastic.

Thank you

A bad start would be not going out and doing it so this is a good start! :-)

Odd - just lost my reply! Briefly, it went something like - "you got up, you got your trainers on, you got out, you got your ipod going and you ran! You ran for 4 mins! Give yourself a pat on the back and start getting excited about your next run :-) " remember you can repeat any run or any week along the way that you want to - and enjoy your achievements :-)

Yes, I had a bad start. Managed 20 second runs, 2 or 3 of them. Then 30 second runs. Then 1 minute, then 2-3 one minute runs, then 4 one minute runs , then 6, then finally 8 !! So took me a few weeks to managed to do Week 1 run 1.

Today I did Week 8 run 1, running for 28 mins.

Keep going, IT IS possible !!!!

That's fantastic. I will be back out on Wednesday - I walk a lot but found the running hard. Thanks

Hey, you succeeded! You decided and you went out there. Not only did you do that, but you ran rings around the other 'you' who was undecided and sat on the sofa not so long ago. So be proud and believe in yourself! "The only thing anyone needs to be special is to believe that you can be" (The Lego Movie, get those references). You've got this.

I huffed, puffed and swore my way through week 1 and would never have believed I could run more, let alone 30 minutes or more. Make sure you're going slowly enough and don't worry about repeating A week if you need to. It's not a race and it's not sitting on the couch so brilliant, the start is the worst bit! Good luck.

I would not call it bad start. I would call it pre-start. It took me a few weeks to start week one. Running a couple of times for 20 seconds or from lamp post to lamp post, until eventually I could do 60 seconds. Then it was a breeze

Well done for getting started! 'Fail' is a word we don't use on here. We just keep plugging away until we can do it. 😃😃 You'll find the next run out will be better, and the one after that better still!

I felt as if my heart was going to burst out of my ribs on my first run - but it got easier.

Good luck!

Well, you've got started, you know you can do 4 of the runs so why not see f you can do 5 or 6 next time ? and increase until you can do all 8. The important thing is to realise that you have made a start and that is 100 times better than doing nothing.

You started which is a hugely positive thing. Ignore all posts about speed, times and distance. Concentrate on getting out again. Advice about trying to get to 5 or 6 runs next time is very sound. Also, can I just say that when I first started I think that I was trying to run i.e. sprint like I used to be able to when I was 16. No wonder I couldn't manage!!! Speed doesn't matter. Go really slowly. It will probably seem slower than you walk but that is the way forward. Slow and steady. The aim is to gradually increase the length of time that you move for. Good luck!

As other people have said - go slow. Don't try and run like you did as a kid (I think we probably all try to do that at first).

Don't be put off and don't be afraid of the weeks to come. Follow the plan and you'll be fine.

Slow down. Try running as slow as you can and focus on keeping that slow pace.

Your body will adapt very quickly to this new thing you are demanding of it.
