Born to Run??
There are some film clips on youtube too. I watched one the other night about a family who live in a cave. I think they must eat very little. They kept goats. Beans and maizie featured as did corn tortillas. They live high in the mountains where there is little soil to,grow much at all. The film showed the start of a long race where a young girl was running in a voluminous skirt, she looked to be wearing plenty of layers, and she ran with a long stick out in front of her. the famoly wore the leather sandals, theirs had thongs up their legs a bit. The shoes seemed almost part of their feet! I bet they never take them off
I have a book by ultra runner Scott Jurek, a vegan, who gave up meat to help his running prowess.
very interesting subject. I shall deffo read Born to run.
Apparently the Tamuhara are under threat from drug barons who are interfering with their way of life and exploiting them
This film is an hour and a half long - I found it to be very interesting. Actually, reading "Born to Run" was one of the very first things I did even before I started C25K. I think it was what convinced me that I should use minimalist shoes and I am very happy that I made that choice. Of course, I have been barefoot for a large part of my life - living in a sub-tropical climate. I can't even remember ever wearing shoes until I started High School. Those days are gone though largely - but kids are still shoeless at home.
It is painfully obvious to me that food and drink are too plentiful in Western society - even for the so-called "poor" .
