Good news from the IC

Hi all, sorry I have been out of touch but work has been hectic and I have really been struggling with not running. I went back to the Physio on Monday and have a fuller diagnosis. I do have Post tibial tendinopathy. Didn't realise that when I turned my ankle twice last year I did a lot more damage than I thought (stage 2 or 3 ligament damage). Needless to say I should have had it looked at and done physio. So my other tendons have been compensating all this time as I have been favouring the injury. I do have some good news though as I can strengthen the ankle and calf (standing on one leg and tippy toes) while also doing all the other stretching exercises.

Even better I can gradually return to running and build up my distance again.

I am very relieved and hope that the next few weeks with a bit of care and ultrasound I will be back to my usual self. To celebrate I ran (not very quickly) this morning.

I am amazed that I managed to progress as far as I did and that my body pretty much sorted itself out until I overloaded it again by running hard for the London 10K winter run. The last 2 months have been tough but I now have a better outlook.

So to all you runners who might be running carrying an injury please heed my sorry tale and get it checked out by a professional. Doctor Google was good but a professional view was better ;-)

Happy running all.

Oo ooh, good news! It's so easy to overload, we all have to learn our lesson somehow. My new mantra is "I'm not 25 but it doesn't matter, I'm not 25 but it doesn't matter..."

Nice to hear you're back out there :-)

Thanks MP. My tendon really only flares the day after a run so it sounds like you might have similar issues with your back

Pleased you can see the green fields over the top of the injury couch GF

. Budge up, I'm joining you. Horrible feverish cold and jet-lag after return to the UK two days ago have set me back a bit but hopefully will be lacing up again next week. Meanwhile my new mantra (filched from Facebook) is 'You're never too old and it's never too late...'

Great mantra TT. I may be borrowing it when I'm back on my feet. Hope that nasty cold is gone soon :)

Thank you AM. Hope so too, but so far Lemsip only holds it at bay for a couple of hours. I fear 3 months full on babysitting was too much for my system. I need a holiday ;-)

Hello!!! I've missed your posts. Glad to hear you are slowly improving. Things are looking up. Must have been so frustrating. Near the end now. Wishing you a speedy recovery now. Although that's not the right words maybe! Go your own pace, if you get what I mean!!!

Great news GF. Hope it's not long before you're fully fit again. In the meantime, enjoy your gentle runs whilst your physio works their magic. :)
