I tried couch to 5k before and all was going well, was feeling great then the dark evenings came and I stopped through feeling unsafe. I'm now trying to start again but by getting up early before work and going out then. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to get motivatated as soon as you wake up?

Promise yourself a tasty breakfast when you get back?

Build some anticipation. The night before, decide on your route (varying it helps too) then before you go to bed, get your running kit laid out and place it in a position from where you can see it when you wake up. Place your running shoes so that when you get out of bed they are right there in front of you. In the morning, they will be crying out to you to lace 'em up and hit the road.
You wont be able to resist.

Exactly as Rob says. Organise yourself the night before. When the alarm rings, dress, have a drink of water and get out of the door before you have time to talk yourself out of it. Usually my brain wakes up a couple of minutes into the warm up walk, wonders what the f?!? I'm doing but by then it's too late, I'm enjoying myself!

I'm an early morning runner. The alarm goes off & I throw my gear on & get out the door. It sets me up for the day. I love the feeling of being out & about before the day has really got started. I also like that smug feeling of knowing I've done 5km (ish) while most of my colleagues have done b***er all before sitting at a desk all day ☺

I'm pretty much a morning person anyway and I like those quiet moments first thing. I generally have my running kit ready the night before and just put it on as soon as I'm up. Then it's a cup of coffee while I check or plan my route and then pretty much out the door.

I'm not a natural, motivated runner so I always do my run first thing in the morning to get it out of the way. If I leave it to the nighttime I have a whole day to talk myself out of it and find excuses not to.
I get up, get dressed and get out there - don't think about it - just do it. The more I think about it, the more I try to talk myself out of it, have a lie-in, etc. It works for me - get up and do it for me. :o)
